Since 2019 anglers that fish DVL have reported catching 23,023 legal sized LMB. Only 117 were kept resulting in a 0.5% harvest rate. Essentially exclusive catch and release practices have resulted in a slow growing, highly educated Florida-strain LMB population which is currently on display. Throw in the added competition from the robust Flathead Catfish and Striped Bass populations that overlap forage and habitat requirements of the bass, and it will be more of the same in the future if anglers don't start making tacos out of their "little buddies".
