I’m spending a few days here with friends at Lake Almanor, and got out on the water Wednesday morning for a bit. I did some topo research and figured the area around the stump field in the north-west section looked likely, but as I have never been here before it was just a SWAG.
My buddy isn’t an avid angler, so I tried to keep it simple. I gave him a spinner bait and a dropshot, and I threw a blade, chatterbait, jig and dropshot myself. I started at the bank on the east side as there were some decent targets which should have been holding, but no takers. I then worked along the stump line over to the extended point.
Saw plenty of bait and fish on FFS, but couldn’t buy a bite. I moved to the docks and rocks just before the point on the peninsula, and saw either major fry or schools of smelt up, but still no takers.
Finally went to the far west side and looked around in 25-35’ around some hard bottom and rocks, but ended up with the skunk on the boat.
Their neighbor went out today and apparently also got skunked, so I don’t feel as bad, but if anyone has suggestions on where they might be holed up or what to try please send them along.
Happy Independence Day to all!!!

Re: Any Tips for Almanor?
Hey my friend - thanks for the info (NOT!)
All good… had to cut my trip a little short, so only got out fishing the one morning… got so hot out there I thought I was back home, until I actually got back home!
Should have got some bites where I tried, and saw lots of bait and sign of fish on the sonar but just no takers. Hex hatch was in full force, so not sure how much that might have had to do with it, and wish I would have had more mornings to spend looking.
Hugs to the wife - give me a call some time and we can catch up! I just ‘tired’ a few weeks ago, so I have a little time on my hands now
