Chance of a Lifetime..thwarted by rules...WWN 5 or 6

Post by Fast Eddie »

After my usual stop at The Bass Hole, I get to Ladds and there are like maybe 6 boats (all in one line mind you) and I'm hoping Josh arrives shortly. We'd be like one of the first 4 boats. What a great start and here comes Josh. After loading up the Josh's boat I have heard scuttlebutt about a $60.00 Chatterbait that has been slaying big fish all season. Yes, $60.00, so I decide to find out for myself about this bait. I approach the maker John and inquire about the bait and it's $60.00 price. I ask if I might see one and then it all becomes clear. This guy went to jewelry school to learn about metals and after about 7 years came up with a successful product, that not only catches big fish, but should last. Looking at this bait and the time it takes to make this bait, along with materials like stainless steel, ands titanium, living rubber combined with silicone, the large blade no wonder it's $60.00. It's very labor intensive. He called it a Donkey slayer (I think, but being old and feebleminded I forget the exact title).
Anyway as we are discussing and story telling, his protégé Braydon *(I think was the young mans name) has won the Bass state championship using that bait. As a matter of fact he set a new State record for that tournament, and received an invitation to the Nationals. Word was put out that he and his partner (not John) needed a boater to travel back east. They were able to raise a few dollars, BUT THE RULES state that your boater has to live within 50 miles of you. WTH, you can't find a boater nearer the venue to help you out and cut expenses. NOOOO, you might spend a whole lot of money hiring a "ringer". So the opportunity of a lifetime goes poof. I feel really bad for those 2 boys. They worked hard, fished their rearends off, just to get a slap in the face. Typical BS. I thought we were promoting our younger anglers to the sport. So home they sat while someone else claimed what could have been their first national Title. Nice job whoever the organization was, way to go. Promote those younger guys. Way to go West Coast. No sponsors stepped forward, no fisherman stepped forward West Coast supports their up and commers. I hope this young man chooses a college with a fishing team. Your going to hear about this kid in the future No Doubt. As Floyd (Red Crow) Westerman said "That is all I have to say".
On to WWN. Josh and I get to our first spot and within minutes a 2lbr. is in the boat. Then here they come like a Macy's Thanksgiving day Parade..........Wake Boat,,,,,,,,Wakeboat,,,,,,,,Wakeboat........bass boat pulling a tube?,,,,,Wakeboat which of course muddied up the water bigtime. Shoulda gone to Franks I'm thinking. Oh well make the best of what we got. Move to spot 2, a couple of blowups just no hook ups. Here comes the parade. OK no one is in spot #1 so back we go. Josh's magic crankbait is working but we've only got about 7 lbs. OK off to Spot #4. Again blow ups but no hookups. Josh's crankbait is slowly culling us up. Josh asks Hoiw much weight he thinks we have, and I tell him around 9lbs. Bubba says Fast Eddie is right on. :) . On to #5 Boils like nothing, stipers are pushing bait up to peat moss and annihilating the bait. We like in most likes where ther are stripers, feeding frenzy like this could mean big bass underneath. But if they were there, we couldn't get em to go. Dumped our fish and back to the ramp. Get near the ramp and not only is it crowded, but it's lit up like Christmas. There are 3 Sheriffs boats with lights on. There are Sheriffs wandering the parking lot. Wondering what's up?
Josh and I think we need to do something so we can follow up with 2 in a row.
So it took 15.31 to get paid. Angelo and AJ's dad Albert dropped an impressive 23.71 onto the scale with a 6.85 BF. Welcome Back Angelo. Not to be outdone Richard and Gerry dropped a %.33 on for 2nd BF. 17.94 was second , Phil and Aaron with 16 and change. Check out Caleb's video as it should be a lot of fun with a surprise ending.

Be sure to throw the $60 bait on straight 65 pound braid! Sucks about the young anglers and the rules. Love your posts,Eddie!

I wish they would have said something at the Wednesday Nighters I'm sure we could have found someone for Braden, shoot I would have taken vacation off to volunteer a boat.
