Don Pedro Calamity......PT 2

Post by Fast Eddie »

Well after the tire and hotel room fiascos, Thursday morning arrives at 4am and not a creature was stirring not even the tree guys. bankers hours I guess. :D . Coffee, and out to check the boat cord. No one parked on the cord.......could things be looking up? On the road at 5, but by 5:15 at the Glory Hole. (Now here's another thing I forgot in Pt 1. On the way to the hotel stopped at the Kwik Serve in Jamestown to feed the Roush. While I'm at it get gas for the Ranger too. A few nozzles weren't working but my side was good. Diesel no problem, but Ranger gas shut off after 6 gallons. (Want a receipt? Yes I say. Pump makes a printing noise and nothing comes out. Pump reads Thank You!) I know I used 13, so it didn't make sense. Insert the card and start again. Puts in 1.3 gallons and shuts off. Now i don't mean at the nozzle, I mean the whole pump shuts off after 1 gal......... Receipt? Thank You! Ok try again thus time shuts off after 1/2 gal. That's it I'm done. Cover the boat and stop[ at taqueria next door for a burrito to go.)
OK back at the Glory Hole, I'm taken aback by the tackle selection. Well stocked with pretty much all you'd need, Prowling for something to eat and orange juice and I see a sign that says "try our breakfast pizza?". Oh dude I say to myself I gotta try that. So with orange juice, pizza, a few jigs. I aske the guy what time he opens, just in case breakfast pizza is good. He tells me there open 24/7. Great I think to myself, a place to get breakfast on the way to the tourney. Now, lets try these pumps. Work great. On to Pedro.
Arrive around 6:15, launch on a beautiful day. Up to woods creek today. Enjoyable ride and in no hurry. Cruise into woods and notice fish popping in the middle over hundreds of feet of water. Flutter spoon works again. Nothing big but works. Go into Moccasin and its loaded. Throwing drop shot and jig and getting bites. Go all the way up to Wards Ferry Bridge, but nothing but small spots for me. Day is getting short, better stop at the 120 bridge columns. Third cast produces a 3 on the spoon with about 30 others following. Ah ha! Things might be lookin up. Find a small point up in woods and stick a 2 1/2, then a 4 that I dropped at the boat. This is going to be the starting point unless I find something different in Big Creek tomorrow. Back to heart attack ramp. Slowly trudge up the hill. Hook up the boat and off to the hotel. What do you know I beat the tree guys. Get cord connected and realize I have to uncover the boat to get the cooler and clothes out. Anyway, prepare for Friday.
Friday comes and the same routine, stop at the Glory Hole, gas, Ice, food and off to Pedro. Same ol story, launch and head to big creek. Lots of fish busting, but can't get a top water going. No spook, no rico, no dog X, no pop x. Don't understand. After a couple of hours its FFS and drop shot and jig. I'm amazed at the ability to see fish and watch them follow my bait down aggressively but not eating it. (I mean after all its a 30 year old blue worm they haven't seen in 30 years  ) Both puzzling and frustrating at the same time, but I'm having fun. About this time I get a text from Josh. Tomorrow will be a slow day so he's coming up and will meet me in the morning. This is good news. Is the worm turning, the sky opening up? I think not! Back to hotel and take 15 of the 25 rods out of the boat and prep for tomorrow.
Tournament day will be Part 3 as this is again pretty lengthy

Different owners. Not as much tackle selection as before. The 24/7 is cool though. Hope they do well.
