CBL Stop 3 McClure.......The Song Remains the Same..But Worse.

Post by Fast Eddie »

Well last Saturday (11/16) CBL had its 3rd stop at Lake McClure. Josh preceded my going as he prefished on Tuesday and it sucked. I on the other hand PM'd Rmanzo as I hadn't been to McClure in over 30 years. He indicated to me my choices were good for this time of the year. (THANK YOU ROBERT :D ) So I rented one of the cabins , for 3 nights, but first went to C&C and dropped the boat off because of the live well problem at Pedro. Picked it up on Thursday morning and off to McClure. Arrived around 11 and went to the North Launch ramp. One guy with trailer parked on the ramp, so you had to back down the entire ramp. Launched and off I went up river. Stopped at the first bluff wall and 2D and active target showed solid bait from 10 feet to the bottom. Tossed a spinnertbait, to no avail. Picked up a Jig and boated a 3lbr. Down the bank about 200 yds another 3lbr. By the end of the day I had about 16 lbs. Pretty pleased and excited. Are things changing for FE? Not so fast.....remember its a "Beaver Moon".

Got to my cabin and there was another guy in a boat there from the Fresno Bass Club. I think his name was Bruce. Nice guy. We chatted and he informed me that the club had a tournament on Sunday, and a lot of guys were coming up tomorrow. I parked the boat where the staff guy told me to, disconnected the boat and started to unpack. As I am just finishing up, I round the Roush and there are 4 does and a fawn 20 feet away. I froze and started speaking in a soft tone and the fawn started coming my way. Momma let her get about 6 ft from me and came right up to her. Both froze. The other 3 were staring and decided I wasn't a threat, they all slowly moved on. The fawn kept looking back, like she was expecting me to feed her. Not wise I thought and finished unpacking and off the Angels Camp for gas and dinner. Cabin was really nice. Feelin pretty good. :D

Shoulda known better. Woke up and received a text from the wifey, telling me it was going to be a nice day. Tried to hot spot my phone so I could watch the weather and was told noy now try later. GREAT!! So first things first, prepare hot chocolate for the day and morning coffee. Finish coffee and start to load the boat. Finish the boat loading when it dawns on me the that the Hot Chocolate is still on the stove. Rush in and there is less than an inch of milk left in the pan and stuff had boiled over evey where. The pan was as black as a moonless night, and into the sink with water to cool it down. Just can't figure out why I forget so easily. Actually I can.....so excited to get back on the water. Now these cabins have nothing but bare necessities, like dishwashing soap and TP and paper towels, but nothing else. No utensils, no linens, etc. I really don't have the stuff to clean up this mess. Paper towels did an good job on the liquid but the burnt stuff on the stove was going to be trouble. Anyway, I'll deal with that later. Off to the ramp. Launch and start throwing swimbaits around until I see the "No Fishing within 50' of the Marina". Luckily I was further than 50 feet away when I see the sign and the swimbait is not working. So I start to tie on another bait to a different rod. (Now in the winter/fall the trolling motor will be on slow. With the center compartment lid up, while searching for the bait, unbeknownst to me, I must have hit the constant button lifting my foot off the trolling motor pedal. Concentrating on tying the bait I realize the boat is moving and heading towards the cabled buoys. But of course its too late. This is Fast Eddie, and we crash right into the buoy line, pulling the metal screw module right out of the AT trolling motor mount   . Going to try and hammer it in with a breaker bar when............ all of a sudden it starts raining.  That's right now its raining. Where are my frog toggs but back in the truck. The AT is mount is broken and I text Josh to see if he go by Fisheman's and buy one for me. Long story short, the answer is nope. WOW, no more AT....crap, well at least it stopped raining. So off to a different spot nada. as a matter of fact nada all morning, when it starts to pour big time again. When it stops I think, I'll have a bite to eat. Well that ain't happening, because my lunch is sitting on the counter in the cabin. OK I'm done. It's noon and I'm off to the cabin. Park the boat and go to plug the power in which there is a plug on the outside of the cabin. (I'm going to have to use my 100 ft cord to reach the outlet plug) Well you'll never guess....that's right...... No Power. WTH? Is it Friday the 13th I'm asking myself. Time to regroup. Bruce is back and he tells me he's getting power from the panel box out back. Sure enough, there's a plug and breakers which need to be thrown and voila power. Wrap up my 100 footer and use my 25 ftr and go have my lunch. When I come out another club member had arrived and said that they were going to have a big party at the area where my boat was parked. I explained that this is where I was told to park by staff and cordially, they'd make due. I thanked them, disconnected the Roush and off to Sonora to buy SOS, a scrub brush and another pot. Do you know how hard it is to buy 1 pot? Anyway, went to Wally World, and headed back. By now it's night, and the moon is on the rise. Better cover the boat as I let it dry from the earlier rain. While putting the cover on, I found myself traveling through space....the final frontier, when the pain of crushed gravel on the knee brings me back to reality rather suddenly. I tripped over the fire pit. Tore the ol knee up pretty good. On the bright side I didn't have a gravel dinner. Got the boat covered and inside for the night. It's pretty dangerous up there.
Now the fun, it took me 2 1/2 hrs to clean the stove, tried the pot, but it ain't working. Crap. The wifey's going to be real happy with me. But on the brighter side the hot spot was working so I could watch TV.
TOURNAMENT DAY
Things are looking up as CBL as a way to thank veterans, allowed them to blast off first. It was an old school "shotgun" start. OK......so there were only 5 veterans. Still it was fun. First spot I stick a 2.15 as the day progresses, the fish are getting smaller, yet the bite seemed to be more consistent as they day went on, with a few lulls. Josh and I had a lot of fun. Brown and purple jigs, 1/2 oz was my ticket. As a matter of fact all our fish came on jigs in about 20' of water. In the end we weighed in 5 for 10.46 good for 22nd place out of 42. Congratulations to Colin and Brian taking first with 16.00 even. (Too bad the tourney wasn't Thursday :D )
No here's what chaps my hide so to speak. I get back to the cabin and there's some guy in a Nitro from Fresno Bass Club parked in my spot. :x Where the heck am I supposed to park. So get this they have several guys with boats and others with cars and are pretty much taking over. Apparently in the Fresno Bass Club it's uncool to unhook your boat and rehook in the morning. There was one gut screwing up as he had all the room in the world on the side of his cabin to park and stay hooked up...but Noooo he's got to park across in front, so the next guy can't park next to his cabin and parks in my spot. Good thing I was done and didn't need to charge overnight. All I can say is this type of behavior is what gives us a bad name and the Nitro gut was a ............My Mother told me if you can't say something nice about someone don't say anything at all. So the Nitro guy was a NOTHING.
Next up......January Don Pedro. Hope it doesn't rain.
