Happy New Year everybody!
I was hoping you guys can help me out here. I am trying to round out my bottom contact arsenal. I currently have a NRX+ 873CRR and a 872S JWR and I’m trying to find a middle ground between these two rods.
I had a 852S and it was a nice rod but it was pretty powerful rod and sold it because I would just prefer a casting rod at that point.
My 873 is my rod for 1/2, 5/8 and occasional 3/4oz jig rod. My 872 I use for nose hook drop shots, shakeuheads, 1/4oz tubes and other more finesse type applications. I’m stuck between a 852C and a 853C.
The confusion lies in the CRR having the reputation of not really being a 3 power rod so it’s hard to compare it to the 852 and 853.
Do you guys have any input on what rod to go with in the middle ground between the two rods I already have? I’m looking for something to use for 1/4 and 3/8 Texas rigs, drop shotting on the delta with covershot hooks, weightless senkos and Neko rigged senkos, 3/8oz jigs, stuff in that realm. I usually run 8lb on the 872 and 15lb on the 873 so probably going with something like 12-14 on the new rod.
Thanks guys, hope I explained my situation clearly!

Just adding my 2cents worth of free advice.
You are the only person who determine the answer to your question.
What about NRX+ sets that rod apart from all others? Price it one of the highest off the shelf rods bass rod made. Balance and rod weight isn’t outstanding. Lure feedback is more dependent on the line used and your sense of feel.
Your description falls somewhere between ease of casting, feedback and standard baitcasting and BSF.
Power is very subjective, originally was the lifting dead weight before the rod bottom out. Power in bass rods was rated in pounds; 1 power = 1 lb, 2 = 2 pounds, 3 = 3 lbs etc. Action is how the upper end of rod bends before middle section bends. Moderate is 1/3 the tip section, fast 1/4 and extra fast 1/8. NRX+ JWR is fast action, CCR is moderate-fast.
You are looking for 2 1/2 power, fast action casting rod with components like the NRX+. Sounds like a custom build or a different brand.
Suggest ALX custom, contact Alex.

Re: Need help rounding out my NRX arsenal
If you’ve fished the 852S you know what the 852C will feel like. I use it for tubes, t-rigs etc. and it has enough power to pitch Senkos and Fat Ikas to the edges of (but not into!) tule lines. IMO it’s too powerful as a dedicated dropshot rod, it’s a true Medium power in other lineups. But it’ll do it with a 1/4oz weight, and the Delta often calls for heavier gear.
You might want to consider the 842 and 843 MBRs as a true midpoint between the 872 and 873 (the 843 is more of a midpoint than the 842 IMO). And not get hung up on questions as to whether an NRX is worth it or suggestions for other brands - it’s clear you’ve already made that decision.
