Yak a Bass held their Gamblers event at the Delta during some nice weather with anglers hoping to have the fishing wide open with some big girls willing to bite. However, the fishing was tough overall but a few big girls were willing to chew. Pua Yang smashes day one with a total of 96.00” and day two with a total of 60.75” for a total of 156.75” total for two days for the win at the Delta Gamblers event.

“With a 30 day off limits, i had an idea where to fish.” said Yang, “I was hoping it was not blown out from the recent rains.”

“Fishing for two hours without a bite, I moved up shallow on the bank and caught my big fish of the tournament.” stated Yang, “Just a few casts later, I caught another nice fish on the bank and knew then that the fish were getting busy doing their spawning.”

“After a few more minutes, I caught a 19” bass on the bank and I knew then I knew that the fish were all setting up on the shoreline compared to being mixed on the large flat I started fishing.” Yang committed.

“I caught every fish on the Chatter bait but a few smaller fish on the Senko.” expressed Yang, “I did catch a nice one just with minutes left on day one ending day one with 96.00”.”

“Day two was tough with only four fish willing to take my bait, I was hoping that the low light conditions were going to play into my technique presented to the bass, but it took me even longer to get my first bite.” committed Yang, “I caught my first fish in a ditch in the flat I was fishing on a 6” Senko.”

“At this point during the event, I just wanted to get a limit.” said Yang, “I did have several bites that short strike my Senko and came off my hook.”

“I had four fish with only an hour left in the event.” said Yang, “I knew that it was going to be close since I hadn’t caught my limit but I ended up keeping the lead to win the event.”

Yang thanked his wife and kids for all their support and most of all my mom. James and the Yak a Bass crew for all their hard work.

Travis Lear finished in second with 126.25” for this two-day total. Lear had big fish on the event that measured 22.25”.

“I hadn’t fished out of a kayak in two years.” exclaimed Lear,” I hadn’t fished the Delta in months so I headed to the South Delta and threw a Senko around to get my bites. It didn’t take long before I caught my first fish.”

“I caught two fish pretty quickly and not another bite until noon time when the tide had dropped out half way.” declared Lear, “Once noon came along, I caught my big fish on a chatter bait.”

“I only had three fish on day one, it was really tough fishing the Delta.” pronounced Lear, “I decided to go back South and changed my colors to black and blue and black and red.”

“On day two, I caught five fish total all on the Senko. However, I had my fifth fish jump off the board back into the water – it was a heart breaker to lose that fish.”

“I was fishing the deeper side of the Slough in about 3 to 7 feet deep.” voiced Lear, “All my fish came on the 6” Senko on day two.”

Lear thanked Shaun Leytem and Romel Labrador (the wizard) for getting me back into kayaking.

Greg Blanchard finished in third with a two-day total of 77.75” He caught 5 fish in two days. First day Blanchard caught two on a red crank bait and day two he caught every fish on a Berkey Slobber Knocker chatter bait.

“It was a tough weekend at best.” said Blanchard, “I only caught five fish all weekend and was lucky I had caught the fish I did. ”

“On day one, I caught two fish on a red crankbait and made a few thousand cast for those two fish.” articulated Blanchard, “On day two, I caught three fish on the Berkey Slobber Knocker with another two- thousand more cast.”

“I feel that I need to put an abstract next to this third-place finish due to only measuring 5 fish for two days.” said Blanchard.

“Fishing was extremely tough this weekend even though I only measured 5 fish but third place is third place even though I felt I didn’t deserve this finish.” said Blanchard.

Blanchard thanked the crew and most of all Justin Dutcher for his support coming out and enduring the tough conditions on the Delta.
