, U.S. stock markets recently experienced a significant surge, marking one of the most substantial single-day gains in history. On April 9, 2025, the Dow Jones Industrial Average soared by 2,962.86 points, closing at 40,608.45. This increase represents the largest one-day point gain ever recorded for the index.

Like Monte's label - dick-tator. (misspelling or intentional?)
I am and have always been a conservative when it comes to fiscal responsibility and the principles democracy stand for. But this ahole is stomping all over our right to the pursuit of happiness, financial security and a level playing field beginning with this:

His policies ignore simple realities:
1. globalization stabilizes the world economies - tariffs destabilize it when a tariff war happens.
2. "Putting Americans back to work" assumes well-paying jobs will magically appear because of tariff threats. Trump is a bully and countries like China, Canada and the EU will eventually stand up and become one big bully even Trump can't dictate terms to.
3. Economic pain for Americans wasn't mentioned in his pre-election promises - most of which are unfulfilled. How much pain, for how long and to what outcome? Inflation and higher unemployment will not disappear and those affected will curse the day they ever voted for him.
4. Lowering taxes will not affect the average American's annual income. Lower salaries already mean lower taxes paid and a discount will amount to little per week in one's paycheck.
5. Tariffs are a tax on consumer products, some of which - like prescription drugs - add to the financial burden of many that don't have good health insurance.
So, rob Peter to pay Paul is how I see it.
BTW if you haven't heard: Trump has a history of bankruptcies and felonies. Just the man I want in charge of the nation's finances and nuclear codes.

Another thing (or two) occured to me:
a. Consumer diminished freedom of choice. You and I buy stuff where we can get good quality products at the cheapest price. That includes everything from food to electronics to clothing. Tariffs raise prices on anything shipped into the U.S. regardless of production source/ assembly. If something I value comes from China, the price is now over double due to the trade war our idiot-in-chief has started. My choice is now dictated by reduced affordability because my 'choice' is now determined by a tariff that make products I buy far more expensive. The goal is to pay down the national debt that BOTH parties exploded over many years due to corrupt legislation and waste. My RIGHT, to choose be damned! We're not at war. Rationing does not apply.

b. the cost of production in the U.S. is generally higher due to higher wages/benefits whereas labor is cheapest in Asia and India for example. Bringing higher paying jobs back into the U.S. is a fantasy as is increasing the number of factories within just a few years, not to mention:

c. the cost of production has been rising due to rising labor, material and transportation costs. But once AI and automation get rid of more manual labor jobs, which they will, how does that affect the job market? Factories will only need so many skilled technicians to keep the machines running that produce more than humans in less time and more efficiently (no coffee breaks needed).

d. This leaves education and re-education as the best way to utilize our labor force. I haven't heard Trump mentioning education except to get rid of the Dept. of Education entirely via the Musk-rat DOGE.

Sad that so many believe his B.S. and excuses. Kind of reminds of Hitler's followers that gave the Nazi salute to a blowhard that caused their cities to be bombed into oblivion and the deaths of millions. DT BETTER NOT START SOMEHTHING WITH CHINA! Wait a minute - he already has.... Congrats President FUBAR !!

Enablers galore! How pathetic!
I can understand wearing a pin of someone everyone honors after death, but proudly sporting an unflattering profile of an insincere joke of a man is beyond words. To see them praise him and his idiot decisions turns my stomach and make me wonder, ARE THEY REALLY THAT STUPID?! More like they want to stay on his good side knowing how vindictive he is as he craps on their heads with them timidly saying - more please.

I was curious about all the fear mongering and jingoist claims regarding trade deficits. As usual, economics and foreign trade imbalances are multifaceted in detail, distorted and misrepresented by T as always horrific.
As I said, the consumers freedom to buy what they want from who they want should be a basic right all Americans insist on. Protectionist claims that our country has been taken advantage of for decades ignores the simple truth that Americans prefer many products made beyond our borders. He claims that “our trade deficit in goods is over $1 trillion a year" and says he is committed to “rebalancing trade” with foreign countries is gibberish. It is a fallacious claim because trade deficits don’t really matter—not between countries and not between you and your local Walmart or Amazon online.

No one forces Americans to buy foreign goods or that foreign goods are flooding America and destroying businesses and jobs. American consumers have the right to buy better and cheaper - PERIOD! and not what the government dictates. What's more likely is that many U.S. manufacturers are averse to competition and their multi-million $$$$ donations to Trump's being elected is clearly in support of his promise to see foreign competition destroyed.

‘Made in the U.S.A.’ implies that US-made products or services are better than a foreign good and that “unlimited global trade” is bad. Never mind Sony TVs, Toyota cars, Columbian coffee, French wine, or Swiss chocolate. When Trump claims that trade deficits hurt the United States, he ignores the US consumers and businesses that engage in those trades (imports) for mutual gain. Their interests apparently don’t matter. What he also chooses to ignore are the million or so jobs foreign companies produce in the U.S., the salaries and taxes of which are paid by those companies and those employed. Those employees buy stuff locally which adds to local economies and the jobs they support. A never ending chain that benefits Americans.
What truly patriotic president and strong advocate of democracy would want to destroy that? Self interest Trumps values and principles - that's what!

Sad that so many Americans have been suckered by a con man that has finally found exactly the wounds to poke and keep open: trade deficits, protectionism, isolationism and prejudice against ALL immigrants and non-whites.

Let the fun begin !!!!

You guys are so funny. The blue side you adore so much is completely full of morons
Are you going to tell me Kamala has a single once of intelligence?
Or is is Joey that’s the brilliant one. Just laughable
Oh wait it’s tampon Tim and AOC
Maybe it’s Warren or Hillary?
They all support killing babies. What else do you need to know about their hearts
Sending out a message to women telling them they are weak and can not buckle down and raise a child when it’s unexpected. Awesome
Apparently it’s these people you prefer
We certainly wouldn’t want one of if not the smartest man alive advising us.

Can’t you see how stupid and ignorant you are?
It’s so bad the country put aside the fact Trump is a convicted felon and made him president over the brilliant idiots the democrats have.

I think we can all agree the democrats have nothing to offer except stupidity from foreign policy to their idea of what a woman is and that an unborn child has no right at a chance of life. Utterly disgusting

Trump won and you won’t see your progressive morons in charge again.
Your progressive blue friends have accepted everything thing with ultra tolerance to the point that gay marriage is celebrated and treated with more respect than the traditional family. You can not turn on TV and not see a family with a child transitioning or 2 men kissing
Now your sick minds say a man can carry a child
Kind of like abortion another institution that bring no life.

The latest progressive idea from people who vote and support the blue no matter who is even worse

A pedophile is now called Minor-attracted person (MAP). And why not. The democrats certainly would t want to hurt his feeling

Next it will accepted as you continue to be progressive.
Way to go. I’m glad I proudly say I have nothing to do with you 2

Yes they do, my point exactly, my comment above was deliberately sarcastic/facetious. But as JV so logically points out, all the socialist radicals/intellects get trained at their Ivy League schools where as Trump would so eloquently say "very bad things take place". However JV - three of the four Trump REPUBLICAN Supreme Court appointees (Gorsuch, Kavanaugh and Brown-Jackson), all went to Ivy League schools (two Harvard and one Yale)!! I just fact checked that on Google, how do you explain that one JV?

What’s to explain? The folks who do not agree with the goofy left at those colleges are attacked for having a different point of view
Try going to the campus and speak out against the loony left.
Those who boldly do so bring security
Isn’t that enough proof who the Totalitarian , Police
State likes are?
It don’t matter any way. The wack jobs you guys support lost to a convicted felon and do not have a chance in hell of destroying this country without great resistance from patriots
The men in skirts will loose

The left is so far gone the places they have a hold of are basically third world countries
In Portland Oregon they have signs and sayings
“Keep Portland weird”

However the president of El Salvador will not release him

both the U.S. and El Salvador governments have labeled Kilmar Abrego García a criminal, which has led to his continued detention in El Salvador despite a U.S. Supreme Court order to facilitate his return.

Ever hear the term dead cat bounce?
The U.S. stock market has wiped out $9.6 trillionsince Inauguration Day – $5 trillion of which evaporated between April 2 and April 4 which is “the largest two-day loss on record,” according to MarketWatch. And the market carnage continues.
Stocks dropped due to investor fear caused by Trump’s much larger-than-expected tariffs and a resulting spike in growth-capping uncertainty. Will stocks keep dropping? Stocks may continue to plunge unless the fog of uncertainty – about whether tariffs will keep rising and how they will hurt the global economy
I don't have an Ivy League education nor do any of my friends. A two-year community college degree and tech school training - that's it. When it comes to the socialist/fear mongering rants of D.T., he should talk! He's gotten the Supreme Court to support anything he does while in office or has gotten away with in the past. His proposed tax cut benefit no one other than the rich and add to the deficit.
His mandates against countries that add to the affordability of products in the U.S. from houses to electronics (which he again has flip flopped on many times), restrict competition and hold the American consumer hostage. A term comes to mind, do no harm - harm being something D.T. prides himself whimsically doing with the support of his followers.
Ever hear of the term lais·sez-faire?
a doctrine opposing governmental interference in economic affairs beyond the minimum necessary for the maintenance of peace and property rights

a philosophy or practice characterized by a usually deliberate abstention from direction or interference especially with individual freedom of choice and action

Obviously, Trump and his MAGA toadies want to disrupt that and reduce freedom of choice when it comes to U.S. consumerism. What is just and fair - two words absent from Trump's play book, do not apply. His supporters love his narcissistic rants, most of which are incoherent nonsense-attempts at being cute. His pathetic attempts to sound like and feel for the average citizen, expose his sincerity as nothing but the demeaning those that hang on his every word. In fact, not a dang word out of his mouth is sincere. Instead, everything out of his mouth is meant to be misleading and misrepresentative - the facts be damned!

A sucker is truly born every minute and D.T. has found his niche audience.

Musk said he bought Twitter because it had become a platform that unfairly censored voices—especially those with conservative or dissenting views. He promised to make it a more open “digital town square.”

After taking over, Musk reinstated accounts that had been permanently banned, including Donald Trump’s, The Babylon Bee, and others. this was a move toward less censorship and more open dialogue.
Exposing Internal Communications (“Twitter Files”):
He allowed journalists to publish internal documents showing how Twitter had cooperated with government officials and agencies to moderate content. Supporters saw this as exposing censorship and protecting transparency.

The Biden administration was found to have communicated regularly with platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube about content they considered misinformation—especially related to COVID-19, vaccines, and the 2020 election.

Example: Internal emails and testimony revealed that White House officials flagged specific posts and urged platforms to take action against them.
Critics argue this amounts to government censorship by proxy—using private companies to do what the government is not legally allowed to do directly under the First Amendment.

COVID-19 “Misinformation” Crackdowns

During the pandemic, the administration pushed platforms to remove content they deemed false or harmful—like claims about vaccine dangers or treatments like ivermectin.

it often crossed into suppression of legitimate debate or dissenting medical opinions.

The “Disinformation Governance Board”

In 2022, the Department of Homeland Security announced the creation of this board to coordinate responses to “disinformation.” It was quickly shut down after public backlash, with critics calling it an Orwellian attempt to police speech.

Censorship of the Hunter Biden Laptop Story

Although this originated before Biden took office (in 2020, during the election), the suppression of the New York Post’s reporting on Hunter Biden’s laptop by platforms like Twitter is often included in this argument.
Critics argue government officials or former intelligence personnel pressured platforms to treat the story as disinformation.
The Biden campaign (not the administration, at the time) was reportedly involved in some behind-the-scenes communication.
