Officials to break ground on flood risk reduction project in Stockton

(FOX40.COM) — The first phase of a $1.95 billion multi-year flood risk reduction project in Stockton is set to begin as federal, state and local leaders will break ground on Friday.


The groundbreaking ceremony takes place at 11:30 a.m. as the first phase focuses on the Lower San Joaquin River project.

Seepage cutoff walls and armor on the waterside of about 1.1 miles of dryland levee along the Tenmile Slough (TS30L) will be installed, according to officials.

Officials stated the levee protects the Brookside community from potential flooding from the San Joaquin River and the Delta.


The goal of the project is to reduce the risk of floods for more than 235,000 residents in north and central Stockton, along with upgrading near....
