Golden clam

Post by JVGondal »

Why is everyone silent on the golden mussel scam?
We pay plenty in boat tax. We pay plenty in state and federal tax. We have a special mussel sticker we pay for.

Jenkinson Lake, part of Sly Park Recreation Area
Has just went to the banding 30 day quarantine as well
Half if not more of our waters are restricted and more is coming. Lake Orville is rumored next

Guys are just joking about buying 2 boats so we can fish 2 lakes. Are we to be like many countries where only rich folks and elites have boats?

They keep saying on the radio show be patient
It’s going to work out very soon
However I personally know for a fact 4 or 5 lakes in our area will have no boating in 2025 and have no idea if and when they will open
Maybe it’s a joke to most of you guys because here in Ca we are conditioned to lose all out freedoms especially when it comes to outdoors.
Has anyone heard anything from the governor?
Before you blame Trump remember Ca is using our tax dollars to trump proof the state
I’m out fishing and boating weekly. I’m not the guy sitting home bitching
Yes I m bitching right now
Get over it ?

I think you’re preaching to the choir on this. I’m pretty sure most here agree with you…I know I do.

A number of guys down here in SoCal/CenCal DO have two boats to deal with this crap. We’ve been dealing with it for over a decade. It’s a shame.

Why are we screwed central Ca lakes are all open with no reason to close because of the delta problem.
Millerton Pine flat Eastman and Hensley lakes are all
Open with no closures in site.
Just hold out and things will turn around in northern ca. It just fishing it's not that big of deal. You can always take up golf or bowling with your time off the water. Gezz I'm missing out til at least Sept. before I'll be able to get back on the water or work in my shop but I'm ok with that.
Another way to keep from buying a second boat is move out of the state simple problem solved.

I suppose you are right. I sure hope it turns around
Seems to me once they put in restrictions it’s awful hard to see them removed
The opportunity to fish is less and less over the years
I don’t have much spare time. I’m out fishing atleast once a week.

Why would it ever go back to the way it was? If Mussels are here and there is no way to eradicate them then there is only going to be more restrictions and more lakes will follow. I'm still betting its all a hoax. These irrigation districts have been wanting to do this for years but were too dumb to think of it until now.

Definitely OID and SSJID are responsible for the restrictions at Melones and Tulloch. I'm sure the property owners at Tulloch put pressure on them to shut the lake down because that lake was a ZOO on the weekends.
Not sure about the other lakes. Probably some pencil necked geeks in charge that made the decisions to restrict just to make it look like they were smart and actually doing something.
I would wager that these lakes that don't have restrictions will never see a Mussel case despite the increased boating traffic.
The great sham to control water and get us into kayaks.

Yep they have not seen the zebra or quagga
Funny. Lake camanche did the inspection and band for many years now. Same with pardee
They never got the zebra or quagga but now closed to all boating. I had just happen to fish there and get their band a few days before they shut down.

They won’t honor the band

What does that tell you

Someone help me out. If recreational boating moves mussels from one body of water to another how is it that all the lakes that have not had restrictions for the last 15 year not get quagga zebra mussels that live in a single drop of water from our outboard

Heard today from a guy I know who is a home owner at Tulloch….. They (Bureau of Reclamation) caved and decided to do a banding/decontamination program for lakeside home owners…. Capped at 2000 permits….. It’s all a scam.

Kayaks are a big part of fishing here in the central valley. I'm thinking of buying one and get it setup by one of my friends I do business with. He got a cadllic of kayaks boats it is loaded.

I have e mailed my congressman, the idiot said it’s a state matter. Even though it’s a EPA and land management problem due to the non native infestation!!
This is going to take a class action law suit against the state of California land management for causing this problem.
As for Camanche and pardee they will never open up boating again!!!!
The people making the decisions are not the sharpest people. Take melones for example,
You have to quarantine your boat for 30 days to ensure that all the mussels seamen is dead, but you could launch your kayak in the delta in the morning then pull it out and launch it in melones the same day.
If you use their mentality that kayak is covered in mussel jizz!!!

Rep. Doug LaMalfa (CA-1)

Representing a vast area of Northern California, including regions with significant water resources, Rep. LaMalfa has been a prominent advocate for improving recreational access to lakes. Notably:
• He co-led the bipartisan H.R. 3324, aimed at extending the authority of the Shasta-Trinity National Forest to collect and retain marina fees through fiscal year 2029. The funds are designated for recreation enhancement projects such as boat ramp improvements and lake cleanup efforts.
• He has consistently worked to ensure that existing marina fees are utilized to improve recreation for visitors, emphasizing the importance of the Shasta-Trinity National Recreation Area to residents and the rural economy.

Why are none of the Agency's talking about what measures they are taking to protect the water project once this "infested" water is pumped into the CA aqueduct and is ushered down south? They are quick to jump on recreational boaters from spreading an "invasive species" in reservoirs above the Delta yet the pumps are wide open to send them down the canal. The hypocrisy knows, no bounds....

I have sent many emails questioning what is going on, very few responses.
Tom McClintock said it’s a state matter not a
Federal matter? So he is basically worthless.
Other representatives that I email respond by asking if you want to donate money towards their causes.
This state is lost!!

Ever lake in Ca is on federal land and if your Republican congressman say it's a state issue there full of chit it's also a fed problem because they control the purse strings. Don't be fooled by these crooks Republican or Democrat that golden mussel is not going to destroy Ca. waterways. It funny back east every lake has hydrilla or mussels or vegetarian of some kind but none are shut down. If the feds want to fit the problem they can. But they just say it's a state problem.

If they are really worried they need to inspect our boats on the way in to be sure it’s clean
Hire staff to handle it Or take the risk
Keeping us out should not be an option

Why don't they use the same methods that dealt with the Quagga mussel so well?

I heard it had dead mussels. The claim is it was out of the water for 60 days
So it was from the delta?
