Maybe Next time......WWN pre season #1

Post by Fast Eddie »

At last......Windy Wednesday Night pre season is upon us. $60.00 all in, What a deal! So, as usual superstition takes hold as I worry will we be able to back up our 21+ from Sat. That means a trip to the Bass Hole for more stuff I won't use but have in case I need it. I think we all have that "just in case" stuff in our bags or boat. So after chatting with Rob, it's off to Ladds with a stop for lunch. Wait! The taqueria has changed owners again, or at least the name has been changed, so I guess its subway for lunch. Now here's something new. I ask the India kid working the counter if I may use the restroom. No he says McDonalds. I inform him that McDonalds requires a combination. He just looks at me and says What would you like? (Now being the smart a$ I could be, I'm thinking I'd like to use the restroom, but thinking better of it and knowing this guy is going to make my lunch I keep my mouth shut.) I tell him I want a Classic Italian. He tells me what number would that be, and points to the big menu above his head. I tell him no number, he says You want Salami, pepperoni, and what? I'm thinkin this poor guy must be deaf, as I repeat a classic Italian on white. He wants a number. So I settle for a number, then he starts again, veggies? Yes wax peppers and olives with oil and vinegar. He then asks me 3 more times veggies? Vinaigrette? oil and vinegar please. He comes back with vinaigrette? This is too much, I just say sure and he continues making the sandwich. Now get this, he's almost through and he looks at me and says................. "Oil and Vinegar?" Swear to God. I say no finish my sandwich and get outta there.
I arrive at Ladds and the line is already around the corner, but no Josh. I see Mike and Firuz, Caleb and Pops, John and Brayden (this young man had a growth spurt :D ), and here comes Phil. So the big guys are here. Josh shows up a short time later and Richard and Gerry show up early, to hand out rules and release forms. Now usually there are 2 lines that work, but sometimes there are new guys who have never experienced the 2 lane turn. And of course I'm behind this guy. He switches lanes leaving a big gap, but positions his boat so you can't squeeze by. However he does leave enough room after the next boat and I take my que and off we go. Launch was easy and parking a breeze (although it is a little like a salmon swimming up stream as boats are coming down to launch while you're headed up to park :) ) Hop out and into the Legend and off we go. At the gas dock we see the Sheriff has a boater pulled over (not one of the WWN guys) and we're off behind Phil and Aaron. The Legend is a fast boat, and we were able to pass 2 boats on our way to "the spot". Upon arrival, I'm thinkin Uh Oh! its different. Josh is tossing the spinnerbait and I'm following up with the D/S. About half way through our first pass, a boat comes by and heads into one of the prime locations. As I look down the channel, I see another boat fishing moving up the channel. Now another boat goes by and into the prime spot. I tell Josh we'd better boogie to the prime, which he does. As we're easing into the spot , someone yells Hey, at us. Josh says its Caleb and Brett (when you old and have cataracts nothing beyond 30 ft is very clear) so I had to ask Josh who it was. Our hot spot was dead for about 10 minutes when Josh picks up a frog, and we're getting blow ups, but no takers. Finally after a few minutes Josh has a frog fish. Then I pick up one on a senko, then another on a senko. Fish are bustin all around us, but they won't eat the frog. I look down the bank and tell Josh to look there are bass chasing fry on the bank. Josh sees it to and we head to the spot. About 25 ft from where the action is Josh starts laughing and says it's the sprinklers. Sure enough the sprinklers were causing the ruckus. Josh picks up another on a spinnerbait and I get one at the boat with a chatterbait. We work our way around and out of the area. We see multiple other boats, Richard and Gerry, Dennis and Jake, Firuz and Mike, but we can't cull up. Time runs out so we're off to weigh in with our almost 13 lbs. Sometimes during a tuff bite 13 will get you paid.
Put the Legend on the trailer, transfer stuff to the Roush and scales open. Getting in line were 4th from the end. I notice one of the boats gets out of the line and drives up 2 rows and parks. After about 3 minutes of moving pretty fast, we're dead stopped and i see this guy running from the line to that boat and sure enough cuts in front of everyone waiting. (No manners period) So we weigh our fish and the near end of the ramp (which is the one I hate because Josh's boat trailer and truck must be 60 ft long   ) So I pull up and start to back down, when the guy behind me pulls up and cuts his trailer right in front of where I'm traying to back. I inquire in typical old man fasion...EXCUSE ME YOU DON"T SEE THAT TRAILER THAT I"M BACKING DOWN? The guy looks at me then stops. He has me blocked from the ramp. I just had to laugh. Well at least the guy apologized several times. Yep! Windy Wednesday Nights is back
Congratulations to Aaron and Phil for both Big Fish (.80 and the win 20.22 it took 16.14 to get paid. Until next week
