Doesnt matter what tournament organization says. Technically, state regulations are 5.

I think your right, Tony M .....5 if there is only one angler in the boat.... now if there are 2 anglers, they legally can have 10 "unless" stated in the tournament rules that you must cull after catching your 6th fish.... this being a low key kind of event with very few rules. Even if no rule in place and two angles are fishing and you are going to weigh 5 fish why would anyone want more fish to deal with in the live well than what you need to weight in....but ya the limit is 5

I just went back and rewatched the video...
I think it was a mistake on his part with the excitement and just miss counted. Thats the problem with videos you are under the microscope of everyone watching. Editing is your friend.

Sure glad he didn't get hurt in that crash could have been real bad... someone was looking out for ya Caleb.

Congrats on the win brother and really close call on your part. I just rewatched the collision. You were definitely going way faster than 5 mph coming off pad. Super lucky you weren’t seriously injured. Seems like whoever is working on the bridge in honker cut is negligent for not posting a bunch of signs or even better, putting up bouys to warn boaters. You easily could have died. God was watching over you for sure. Take it one step slower and keep smashing em like you are. Hope you are back on the water soon with that spare TM!

I went by and looked tonight as I live close by
It is pretty crazy, they don't have any makers/buoys out on either side. They do have 3 red lights on a cable/rope across the area/bottom of the walkway but they didn't come on till late dusk and even then you can't really tell what they are for. I can't tell what the red sign on the cable said would need binos to read from shore.

The walk way under the bridge doesn't even look safe to work/walk on and it looks like it is held up with wood. The 5 mph sign is on the bridge but should be placed 50 yards at least before the bridge, IMO. I think most guys think they can shut down right at the bridge as in this case and if you did your going to hit the walk way which in low light it is a very thin structure making it very hard to see at water level. A guy coming in a little hot, excited and running in a hurry to weigh in after just boxing a winning fish....of course that is no excuse but it can happen.... High tide you will cut your head off!

Glad Caleb didn't get hurt BUT someone will if something is not done, fast. IMO Caleb needs to file a complaint and claim...
You have to zoom in to see what I'm talking about... tide looked low tonight

Here is another picture from a ways back and you can see with all the reflections and stuff on the other side of the bridge the walk way/cable is hard to see. You can go through and under the bridge to the left as this bridge has two cross under areas but you got to zig zag around pilings and stuff.

Good stuff Stickbait. There are two phone numbers listed on the flyer I posted above for the San Joaquin Public Works Department who is in charge of the construction. They are for the Resident Engineer and the Engineering Services Manager. Since Caleb mentioned another boat that got its outboared and power poles sheared off, I wonder if there have been other accidents there.

Yes Mark, good job on the reporting of this hazard! Watching that video is scary! Definitely could of been a way worse ending!

Great investigative reporting, Mark. Jiggin will be along shortly to add that because Lake Eastman isn’t affected, everyone just needs to get over it.

Outboard and poles ripped off....wow he must have been going way fast, I would think it would have took a lot to do that and that walk way under the bridge would have been destroyed. I would have thought that would have caused body injury too. I think I heard on some internet site that someone hit it or a warning was posted... don't remember

I remember years ago leroy bertaleo and danny poulso hit a pole/log at full speed and ripped the big motor off the only thing holding it was the cables... that's scarry stuff as you loose all control.

Thanks but not much investigating..just a couple pictures and some thoughts. I would have thought Jiggins would be commenting on 7 fish...lol.

Now back to our regular scheduled program!

Those pictures really show how dangerous it is there. Definitely another accident waiting to happen. Hopefully Caleb follows up with the situation. Maybe his boat insurance will follow up when he files a claim.

If I remember correctly, years back a bass fisherman died at cruiser haven bridge by colliding with an underwater piling while running. The powers that be then placed a 5mph sign while running under the bridge. I’m pretty sure the picture of the guys boat showed the big motor ripped from it. The Delta is a hazardous place to navigate to say the least.

I look forward to this video series every week. Glad your ok! I can see myself after just catching a toad on the frog being excited and missing that cable in low light. After these last 2 weeks shows just think how deadly you and your pops would be if you BOTH threw the drop shot lol. Keep up the fun videos!

Caleb, you mentioned 3 broken casting rods well don't run out and buy 3 more casting rods to replace them! You need to buy 3 more spinning rods! :) You might have found a new way for you to catch fish on the Delta! That's the best I have seen you do since you started posting clips! Good to see you learned something from Pops!
congrats again!

I’ve been in major civil highway construction my whole career…. All I’m going to say is that at a minimum, I would be able to buy a new boat when I was done with the county and that contractor….. I would possibly own the company when it was all said and done.

There is the issue of whether or not it was 5mph AT the bridge or that is where you are supposed to shut it down??? Maritime law semantics but, the facts are that it was no way navigable at high tide and should be blocked of or some other type of advanced warning signs/lights/etc.

San Joaquin county is chit hole and their public works is a joke….. I can almost bet that they didn’t do a pre construction meeting or plan review with the Coast Guard or the Ca dept of boating and waterways.

Too many things can go wrong at a bridge
Slow down
Really. A section of braided line from a bridge fisherman could cut you wide open
