Lake Berryessa beware!!!!
So my partner and I went to fish the Thursday nighter at Markley cove at Lake Berryessa and when we get there the mussel inspection employee informs us that there isn’t a cable attached to the boat and trailer. We both checked to make sure it was there before we left the house and it was. It must of fallen off on the way there from not being attached correctly. They told us we were not allowed to launch and have to go thru the decontamination process and pay the $80 fee again before we can return next week. Unreal, being it was their fault. Moral of the story double check your cable before you leave the lake to make it’s installed right. Better luck next week I hope

At Casitas Lake if you are incorrectly cabled and have your boat tagged with our tamper proof seals by one of the kids at the gate on the way out ...It's on you ...It's $150 bucks, another inspection and a 36 day quarantine. Our cables are locked with a master lock and the seal is put through the crimped cable ends. If you don't catch it on the way out you are S.O.L.

Cables do break. I’ve had several snap on my rig on the way home from the lake. Ours here at my local lake are just a simple wire, and I think two fails can happen - it gets pinched in between the hook and the bow hook OR the lake staff makes the cable too short and when the boat-trailer bounces on the highway the cable pops.
Like others said, make sure it’s solid before you leave the lake….one way or another.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!! I checked it right before I left and it was there. Why would I lie??? I’ve been thru the process at least 5 times the past few weeks and wouldn’t head not head to the ramp without out it attached. When it was put on last week it was dark, the employee was standing in the water at the ramp with not much light and it took way longer than normal to get it on- he was struggling with it. From now on I’ll check it before I leave the ramp and may even put some electrical tape around it as long as it’s not considered tampering with it. These employees need to make sure they do a good job since we are already being inconvenienced by this BS. If we were a little higher in the standings for AOY I would have been REALLY pissed.

Once they put the through eyelet on the boat and it's attached to the crank handle support anything you add to is tampering and putting black tape on it is just that just make sure it secure before you leave the ramp make sure the person putting it on leave slack in the cable so if the boat bunch around it won't snap the cable. And if there paper work to sign of on the date you pull out of the water have that person that puts the cable on your boat sign and date the paperwork to prove it was done sound like a load of chit but it save a headache.

Only common since watch them put the device on make sure it secure and if there paper work for that
Round to secure your boat have that person sign off on it and date it. Or go fish lakes like we have here in the central valley that don't have to have inspections
And the fishing is good to and will get over it
