Yak a Bass held their event at the California Delta with a thousand miles of fishable waterway and hundreds of launch ramps; the kayak anglers spread throughout the vast waterways of the Delta. The tide was outgoing most of the day and then a few hours of incoming water. For some, the incoming was the best while the low showed the healthy grass that held the bigger bass.

Once lines were in and fish were submitted, Casey Remy wins with 87.00”. Remy covered water to catch his winning fish.

“I decided to try a new area and cover water; however, I was not able to catch any fish for the first half the day.” said Remy, “I caught a few fish out of this small grass bed and then moved on, but soon returned to the same grass patch and picked it apart.”

“I knew there had to be more fish inside of that grass bed, so I punched every inch.” said Remy, “I was punching a Rage Craw bug on a 2-ounce weight.”

“The incoming tide was best for me.” said Remy, “I was punching from 4 to 6-feet deep.”

“The key was to punch through the matt the fish would hit my bait.” said Remy, “If I didn’t get a bite on the drop, I would reel in and make another cast.”

“The fish would not bite if I shook the bait on the bottom or shook it just under the matt, only on the first drop the fish would hit my Rage Craw.”

Remy thanked the Yak a Bass crew for hosting these great events, Jon Mahone for all his support and my brother for helping me get into this great sport. Most of all my wife for all her support with my fishing.

Pua Yang came in second with a total of 85.75”. He used a chatter bait and the punching technique to catch his fish.

“I checked the tide and saw that the tide was going out most of the day and then incoming the rest of the day.” said Yang, “Since the tide was different, I had to adjust my lure choice accordingly to the depth of the water in the area I was fishing.”

“I was using a Jack Hammer chatter bait in the black and blue color.” said Yang, “I would throw the chatter bait in the open lanes of the grass.”

“Once the tide bottomed out, I punched until the tide came in.” said Yang, “I used a beaver style bait and a flappin hog to catch my fish.”

“The tide was one that I like to flip while it was low to incoming.” said Yang, “After the tide came in, I switched back to the chatter bait once the tide coved the grass beds.”

“The area I was fishing, there was hardly any grass left compared to years past.” said Yang, “It was disappointing to see that most of the grass was gone.”

Yang thanked Yak a Bass for hosting these great events, my wife for all her support, and a special thanks to my daughter, it was her birthday, I missed half of the day’s celebration.

Isiah West came in third place with a total of 85.50”. West punched his way to a third-place finish.

“First thing in the morning, I found that the fish were not coming up for topwater, so I went down to them using the punching technique.” said West, “I was punching a sweet beaver style bait to catch my fish.”

“I was using the Bloody Mary color in 2-feet of water.” said West, “I would give the bait about three lifts, but most of the fish ate the bait during the fall.”

“I was using a 1.5-ounce weight, 3/0 hook with 65-pound braided line.” said West, “The biggest key factor was the Hobie drive to get me back to areas inside of the grass.”

“The tide was slack all day long.” said West, “This type of tide made fishing tougher due to the lack of water movement.”

West thanked Yak a Bass for hosting these events
