Call me the mussel man....

Post by stickbait »

4 trips and caught a mussel on 3 of them.

Three different areas, if there are that many then they are everywhere!!

State has to give up these programs there is no stopping them now! They can be transferred by birds and now even fishing tackle from one lake to another.

It's not a serious issue or they would have figured out how to take care this problem 50 years ago in the Port of Stockton the issue with the golden mussels have been around for many years now and there here to stay no matter what they do. You learn to live with them that it.

It's this attitude, personal assumptions with no data to support it, and ignorance that will guarantee amplifying this problem without taking measures to "TRY" to avoid contamination spread through lakes that are not infected.

I think its already too late.
The only way this could have been prevented is by treating ocean going ships' bilge water, and that was never going to happen.
All the fuss from the State is just politicians trying to cover their butts for when, no if, the mussel spreads. They all want to be able to say they did the best they could, so its not their fault.

It is a very serious issue, they cling to the grates that protect penstocks for hydroelectric and other delivery systems that transfer waters. Who’s gonna volunteer to dive down and clear the outlets in the Shasta dam. Big problem….

The powers that be didn’t do anything to prevent this from happening in the first place.
We got lots of worthless politicians in this state that can be weighed down, placed underwater and clean the water inlets!!!!

First off the mussels can't live any deeper than 30feet or 10 meters as for what I have read, So I don't see them getting down to the bottom of any lakes dam where there pumps are located, since most of are dams have 200 to 300 feet of water on them...Now the water going down south from the delta that might be a different story.

When Castaic is drawn down 100'+-, do the mussels go down with the water level, and will raising the water back up kill the mussels that grew when the lake was low?

good questions. Research says the live typically 10 meters deep or less. Attach to hard surfaces and don’t live on muddy bottom
Everyone is in a panic that operates the waters
Some will use it as an excuse to gain power
It’s a lot like the Covid nonsense that our politicians used to herd people around like sheep

I lost too many friends and family to ever call Covid nonsense.
That's like saying Jan. 6 was just a party that got out of hand.

The politicians and bureaucrats are all trying to be able say it wasn't their fault when they run for relection.
