Pua Yang wins another tournament with Yak a Bass Gamblers at Lake Tulloch
Pua Yang wins another tournament with a two-day total of 189.50”. Yang used several different techniques to catch his winning bag of fish.
“With several hours of fishing on lake Tulloch, I fished memories on the main lake.” stated Yang, “With very little fishing pressure on the lake made fishing pretty much wide open.”
“Presentation was the key to catch the main lake fish that were busting bait near the surface.” exclaimed Yang, “I used a tailspin and chatter bait to catch my fish early.”
“Around 930 AM the main lake bite shut down, so I went shallow.” remarked Yang, “I started fishing shallow and started doing the most damage to build a winning bag.”
“I was still using a chatter bait and flipping the grass.” mentioned Yang, “The flip bite caught the bigger fish.”
“If you flipped near a fish, they would move several feet to eat my creature bait.” declared Yang, “I would see several fish up to 4 fish move to eat my bait and one would comment and eat the bait.”
“On day one, I had a limit by 10:30 AM and day two, I only had two fish at 11AM.” claimed Yang, “On day one, I caught the big fish of the tournament flipping the creature bait in grass, it was 21.50” in length.”
“Day two, I fished the same areas and found out extremely fast that the bite changed.” pronounced Yang, “The water did get cooler and came up about a foot.”
“With only two fish at 11 AM, I was pretty worried.” insisted Yang, “I was eye scoping the offshore grass to catch my fish.”
“I caught three fish pretty fast once I had found what I wanted to see which was grass lines.” replied Yang, “I felt that I left the main lake fish too early since I found the shallow fish less willing to bite.”
“I had a school of 6-to-8-pound fish come out to look at my glide bait, but they didn’t commit to the lure.” said Yang.
“Overall fishing was great since there had not been much pressure on the lake.” said Yang.
Yang thanked his wife most of all, James, Shaun and Bill for all their hard working making these events happen. I want to dedicate this win to my cousin, Sub that just passed away a few weeks back and his brothers Cheng and Leng.
Max Lee finished in second place with a two-day total of 170.25”. Lee started close by the ramp and found some fish busting in the middle of the lake. He used the strolling technique to catch a limit of fish.
“The key to catching the suspended fish was to cast towards them and then quickly move the bait away from the fish.” voiced Lee, “If you slowly shook the bait the fish wouldn’t commit.”
“I filled my limit the first hour of the morning using a minnow.” expressed Lee, “After that I started to throw the magnum spoon under the docks.”
“I lost several large fish on the spoon under the docks, some fish went well over 5 pounds.” spoken Lee, “The most consistent docks were the ones with grass behind the docks.”
“The fish would come out of the grass behind the docks and crush my magnum spoon.” explained Lee, “The spoon would move backwards to the grass beds behind the docks.”
“After 9 AM that bite totally stopped and I had lost the spoon on a dock.” pointed out Lee, “After that I tied on a jig and started to catch fish once again.”
“That was pretty much for day one.” reported Lee, “The boat traffic was insane on the lake.”
“Day two, I fished a completely different end of the lake.” commented Lee, “Day two was way different compared to day one. The stroll bite was not working; the fish didn’t want to play.”
“I picked up a spoon and caught a nice fish, but it jumped off the board while I was measuring it.” recalled Lee, “The next cast, I caught a 5 or 6-pound spot but it came off while I was fighting it back to the boat.”
“I did catch a fish that was 16” spotted bass under that dock.” informed Lee, “I moved to the grass beds and started to catch fish ripping the spoon out of the grass.”
“I found a few other docks that had fish under them in the grass behind the docks.” asserted Lee, “I did catch a few on jigs, dice and several smallmouth fish. I caught more smallmouth bass then I had ever in the past.”
“I had to put my head down and fish hard to catch the fish I had caught.” noted Lee, “Overall the fishing was better on day on compared to day two.”
Lee thanked 559 Fresno Bait and Tackle, NuCanoe, Mr. Joseph Tax for the accommodations, and James from Yak a Bass for hosting these events.
