How the Delta has changed over the years

Post by WB Staff »

This is great episode with my good buddy Mark Mello. Mark has over 40 years of tournament bass fishing experience and time on the California Delta. In this episode he shares a lot of information on how the delta has changed over the years. He also tells the story of when he caught his personal best bass (15 pounds) on the delta. Mark shares so good tips at the very end for anyone looking for some help out on the delta.

As I recall the Florida strain LMB were introduced into the Delta in 1986(?) talking the late Andy “Cooch” Caccia. With approx 15 year life span 2000 would near the end of that year class with 1st gen F1’s carrying the vigor of those FLMB onwards.
The Seal Lion weighing over 800 lbs needs to be controlled if the Delta is to revive the big LMB populations along with restocking FLMB. CDFW will never do that!
Our problem in SoCal is drought and Stripe bass plus low FLMB vigor in the strain now low in populations in our small reservoirs.
Thank you for sharing the podcast.
Tom
PS, caught my 1st Stripe Bass under the Rio Vista bridge in 1976 on a UJ 9” black widow eel 34 lbs while “black” bass fishing.
