California's largest reservoir in decades get boost

Post by WB Staff »

Planned for 70 miles northwest of Sacramento, the proposed Sites Reservoir won the bulk of the funding because plans to expand the Los Vaqueros Reservoir in Contra Costa County fell through, freeing up money in the state’s 2014 water bond.

Governor Newsom accelerates Sites Reservoir to tackle California's future water shortages

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Governor Gavin Newsom is advancing the Sites Reservoir project to expand California's water storage capabilities, as the state braces for water shortages impacting western states and the looming threat of a hotter and drier future. The California Water Commission has approved a nearly $219 million funding increase for the project to ensure it progresses swiftly.

Newsom should stop pushing the Tunnel, and instead use that money to build Sites, and to rebuild the Delta levee system. Stuart Resnick won't like it, but the rest of Calf. will.

It's easier to build the tunnels and ship the water south.

You seem like a delightful person to be around.

I get the feeling some of you guys subject us to your nuttiness because over the years fewer and fewer people will tolerate it in the real world. You crowbar your political views into nearly every post - it’s exhausting. This is how you choose to spend your existence! :D

Because of your kind I have good reason to believe the new lake proposal will bring even more restrictions than we’ve seen in the past. Look at what’s already happening across California reservoirs are being saddled with rules that take away our ability to freely enjoy them. No boats, no swimming , no dogs, and even bans on lead sinkers. I don’t smoke or use alcohol but you can bet those will be banned. Probably cost a small fortune to park

These are all examples of freedoms we used to have that are slowly being taken away. There’s no reason to think this new project will be any different. Instead of opening up opportunities for the public, I fear it will come with even tighter regulations, limiting fishing access and turning what should be a shared resource into something controlled and restricted by liberal commie socialist who claim to protect the earth.

If we don’t speak up now, we risk losing even more of the outdoor freedoms that have always been part of our way of life.
Am I wrong? Where are the new access areas that are not operated with heavy rules restrictions and fees?

Yes it is. Many are shut down or heavily restricted
Do you need to see the list to understand boating and fishing is at threat as we know it?
Name a new open to boating body of water and I can list 10 that we lost
Just saying.

It’s just not even in the realm of possibility that it would be closed to boating or heavily restricted.

Tons of parking/camping/boat-in campsites. I’ve never even heard of a place with drinking/smoking restrictions. I feel you encounter smaller water-district reservoirs which are naturally more strict. Take it up with the local water district.

Really looking forward to this place. Once it’s open I’ll take you out on my boat. We can smoke cigarettes, drink beer, and drop shot with lead weights.

I hope it comes to be! Sounds amazing

Here is the place I went to that was disappointing
I don’t drink or smoke but I don’t go anywhere they don’t allow my dog

Los Vaqueros Reservoir's main rules are no swimming, no alcohol, no outside watercraft, no pets on trails (with exceptions for the campground), no smoking (except in the designated Marina area), and a strict "pack it in, pack it out" policy for trash. Body contact is prohibited to protect drinking water quality, and pets are banned to safeguard endangered wildlife in the watershed. Parking is only allowed in designated areas, and there are fees for parking and fishing permits.
Prohibited Activities
Swimming and Body Contact: You cannot swim or make body contact with the water in the reservoir or watershed to prevent contamination of the public water supply.
Alcohol: Alcohol is not permitted within the reservoir and watershed area.
Outside Watercraft: Only rental boats from the Marina are allowed on the reservoir; you cannot bring your own outside boats.
Pets: Pets are not allowed in the Los Vaqueros Watershed to protect endangered animals, public safety, and water quality.
Smoking: Smoking is prohibited except in a designated area at the Marina.
No lead sinkers.

Sounds normal to me most of are Reservior have some of the same rules we just follow them if there enforced but most are not because park management don't give a chit there to lazy to get off there asses to enforce them.
It's not that big of deal around here

oh he's such a great guy. I mean they are letting PGE remove a damn at Pillsbury that provides water to Potter's Valley in Mendicino but are quick to tax the rate payers to add a new reservoir that will largely benefit his huge benefactors, commercial AG.
