Karma or just skill?

Post by Paul Facio »

I recently fish a night tournament with former Save Phace regional sales manager Ken Bull. On the way to the lake we stopped in to refuel. As I was filling out the loan paper work to pay for the gas I noticed a wallet on top of the pump. I looked around and did not see anybody who would be the likely owner so I picked it up. The wallet was clearly not mine which was evident by its weight. Being curious by nature I took a quick peek inside and sure enough it had more green paper in it than a drug dealers underwear. Doing the right thing without even thinking about it I turned it in.

Ken and I got to the lake without any further incident and went out for our first half of the night which was to be 6pm till midnight. The fishing was good but we just couldn't catch any fish of size. We finished the first half with about 13lbs in 4th place about 5 lbs behind and I was loosing interest fast. I was thinking of how good it would be to just be in my own bed fast asleep. I told Ken that I was feeling tired and that I might have to take a quick nap. He shot me the evil stare and I put more RedBull in the boat.

So we fired up the Skeeter put on our Fish Hedz and headed back out for the second half. Ken switched his lure to a 10 inch power worm and I went to the Big Senko. Ken hooked up immediately with a 6lber and I started to wake up a little. Not more that 20 minutes later he hooks up again. This time its a 9.22 on the cull em rite. Needless to say I am wide awake now.

Fishing was wide open and we were having a blast. It soon became apparent that we were on the verge of setting a new five fish team tournament record for the Redwood Empire Bass Club.

We ended the night with a five fish bag of 27.78 pounds! Big fish of the year and two new club records. Both, most weight for a five fish team bag and most weight for a team two day event.

You know you are doing well when you are catching 3.5 pound fish at will and they wont help you.

Check out the July results on our club web site

Again I ask you was it Karma or just skill?

I can't wait until this months tournament which is another all nighter on Lake Sonoma and you can be sure that I am going to stop at every gas station on the way there!

Paul-

Congratulations on the night tour. That is a great sack of fish. You did the wright thing by turning in the wallet. If you kept it,it would be on your mind forever.I'm sure its skill that help you get the big bag, but a little bit of karma does'nt hurt either. You did the wright thing.Way to go buddy.

What goes around, comes around.....

and here's a true story for you;

About 15 years ago, I had brought my truck to a self car wash across the street from my house. I walk up to the change machine, and what do I find on top of it ? A wallet. Like you, I look inside, and I believe there was about $60 in it. I also saw the guys Peace Officers card, and something else which said, "Vacaville Ca. State Correctional Facility". I actually kept the wallet long enough to get home, and call his place of employment. They contacted him, then connected the two of us where I was able to give the guy his wallet back.

So here's the kicker..... and I swear this is true ! A few years after that, I went to the very same car wash to wash my truck again. This time, being a dum-bass, I left my wallet on top of the VERY SAME CHANGE MACHINE ! Then went home and took about a 4 hour nap. When I got up later, and was fixing to go out, I couldn't find my wallet ! My mind starts racing ! Where did I have it out last.... Ahhh ! The car wash ! Of course I remembered returning that wallet that I had found at the wash a few years earlier..... but what are the odds that mine would also be returned ? I race back to the wash, hoping...... but not really expecting. Turns out that this time, the odds were 100% ! The car wash manager had found it, and returned it to me with my $$$ still inside !

Good Karma is always a GREAT thing to have on your side !

What Comes Around...Goes Around...

Thanks for Sharing.
I wasn't going to bring this up, but it fits right in to your story.
First day..Yesterday. SnagProof. We catch one fish. 1.13 lbs.
Today we change tactics, what have we got to lose. Right?
Head to Milred and find about six people on a houseboat...waving at us. Or were they waving us down?
It's still fairly dark. We wave back and as we go by notice that one side of the houseboat is higher than the other. We get to our spot a few hundred yards further down. I look over at Don and tell him; "We need to go back and see if everythings okay."
He gives me that look and says your right.
They had been floating and slowly sinking for about ten hours.
They didn't know where they were so the CoastGuard couldn't pick them up.
I made the call, told them the location and made sure that they were alright.
I gave them my cell incase anything began to happen.
We left them safe and sound, knowing the CoastGuard was on their way.
Within 30 minutes, I was able to put in a five, a three and a seven in the boat. Don was getting good with the net.
Call it what you want...I believe it.
Try it sometime...Never under estimate the Power of Postive.
Good night...I'm going to bed.

Your right again!

It's about doing what's right! You did it and you earned it.

Several years ago, I was fishing as Aaron Martens non-noater and travel partner. I would hear all the time, he is so lucky. My response, you travel 60-100K miles this year, sleep in the back of your suburban, travel 200 plus days and we'll call you lucky too!

It is karma!

You did the right thing and it sounds like the Kharma paid off for you...

Hate to be the devils advocate here... but, I think Fish Chris had the right idea... find the person yourself... because there is a chance that a gas station clerk is now off on a spending binge on the poor sucker who left his wallet behind! Unfortunately, the chances of that wallet finding 2 people who will do the right thing probably aren't very good!

Sieg you are the man dude!!! Going back to check is one thing but leaving them your cell? You are a trusting soul my friend-I always knew you were a cool dude but man your a kind hearted man! Too many people nowdays wont do anything to go out of their way for another person-nice to see your not that type. I always think "Ok so you drive by KNOWING there is something wrong-go fish all day go home pop a beer and turn on the news and see '10 people drown in boating accident' How could you live with that?" I always guilt myself into helping out but at least I try and help-I just couldnt live with someone being hurt or worse cuz I didnt want to lose any fishing time. Good job Sieg
