Lowrance
Lowrance
Good morning, just a question? Is there any local person that works on Lowrance fish finders? I have a HDS Gen 3, it just went black screen on me, tried to reboot, checked fuses, connections pretty sure its dead. Obviously very old.
Lowrance wont look at it, so I was wish full thinking it might be something simple? If it could get tested?
Not in a position to spend $ on a new unit
Thank you as always! Jay (four zero 8 - 8 nine one - 311 zero) located in Eastbay.

Re: Lowrance
Delta jig fishing in general what do you suggest?
Any advice on building Bucktail flipping jigs for heavy cover in shallow water?

Re: Lowrance
JV to answer your questions. Witertime
A break down summery on jigs I'd use.
Black regular grade round rubber accented with blue bucktail. 3/8 1/2 or 3/4 Arkie
Make a big silhouette it good for dark water mimicks crawfish or bait fish.
Grn pumpkin with accent
Clear or stained water add black brown or purple
Bro/Purple
Natural imitations add grn pumpkin or matte brown
Blk/red
Good craw fish bite trigging bass focused on craws
Watermelon/ Green pumpkin
Use in clear conditions when bass are spooked
I would use round rubber jigs more in winter on the Delta the skirt material has better action in the colder water.
Silicone work better when the weather &water starts warming up.
This is what I would use if I were going to fish the Delta a lot of my customers use these same color
All the time.
I build combining colors all the time.

Re: Lowrance
JV you want to consult Pd on the braid and mono leader. I have to admit I would go up to 10lb Maxima if I were going to fish the Delta now.

Re: Lowrance
Thank you Jiggin. I like round rubber. Honestly I prefer it over silicone skirt. I try to incorporate both rubber and silicon in the jig. I like the action of round frog hair and the old school square cut rubber. It breaths slowly when dead sticking. The silicone looks like nothing but a porky pine to me when dead stick
In all my jig fishing I dead stick. The silicone is just accent to me. I know a full silicone jig works great. Rubber is just my preference
In the delta however when flippin 3/4 oz jig in 1-3 feet of water the bass eat it before that heavy jig ever hits the bottom or the very instance it does hit bottom. And I mean big fish my PB
Is a 14.88 on a black blue jig 3/4 oz.
I go down the bank at about a walking speed. Cover about 2 Miles an hour flipping in to all the key targets along the way. When I catch a couple in a few yards I will go back and pick the area apart figuring they are held up on that bank
What thread does PD need braid mono consulting?
I like 65 pound braid straight up to the jig in dirty water
In cleaner water I will top shot just about 18 inches of 15 - 20 green max or Berkeley big game. The connection is a crazy Alberto knot. The mono can act like a shock absorber for hook set if the rod is super stiff
I like the 65 pound braid largely because it works really good for sliding through my hand for flippin
Mono is terrible for that. I flip old school fishing with a fixed amount of line as I go down the bank.
Wheb I come to a tree or dock and need a longer presentation I will pitch. I go back and fourth from flipping and pitching

Re: Lowrance
Yes I like using Living rubber round rubber fine and regular grade
The old living rubber flat rubber was the best for tying skirt for wintertime I remember tying the first puffball and Lions collar & mini puffball jigs the tight skirts action was really good. I use a lot of accent color now mixing silicone and round rubber or I add flashabou to bucktail accents
Im getting ready to put and big order in with living rubber for both fine and reg grade round rubber in
1 lb spools.

Re: Lowrance
This time of year Black n Blue and Brown Purple or Black Purple in round rubber are going to be the bread and butter on the river. For trailers something that resembles pork chunks (like the berkley max scent trailer) or sweet beaver are going to be the starting points - slow action, slower ROF think 3/8th oz on 12-14lb fluro. The river is stingy in the winter but there are giants to be had they are just out on the ledges and dont spend as much time up shallow.

Re: Lowrance
Cooch used a lot of blue/brown color TNT Wadda Jog, basically a flatter Arkie head with fine strand weed guard. Big fan of a few Flashabou strands in jog skirts for UV color reflection.

Re: Lowrance
I find arky head 1/2 or a mold a ground out a little heavier for about 3/4 But I like a 4/0 hook. This brings the hook point farther up the weed guard. The farther up the weed guard you go “ closer to its base” the stiffer it is making a much more weedless jig. I take and sweep or flex the guard down with my fingers and trim it even with the bend of the hook. I like to pitch into heavy cover and work it out.
I also make a lighter 3/8 using a bass jig mold where the head is pointed. Those I use a 2/0 hook and trim guard the same. You almost can’t snag that jig
I have not had a decrease in hook ups. You figure the bass inhales the entire jig. If you set before he blows it out you got em
