Tulloch Closure Announced

Post by WB Staff »

Dear Lake Tulloch Community,
It is with deep regret that we share the following announcement regarding the future of Lake Tulloch Campground & Marina.
Unfortunately, circumstances outside of our control have made it impossible for us to continue providing services in a safe, financially viable, and compliant manner. As a result, Lake Tulloch RV Campground & Marina will be closing to the public permanently, effective immediately.
We understand that this news will come as a significant disappointment. It has been our privilege to serve the families, visitors, and community members who helped make this place special. We are sincerely grateful for your support and for the many memories created here.
As we close out our operations at the property, for inquiries related to the future use, management, or status of the campground property, please direct questions to the County of Tuolumne or the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. We appreciate your understanding, as we are unable to provide additional details or engage in further discussion at this time.
On behalf of our entire team, thank you for being part of this place. We share in your disappointment and appreciate your patience and kindness as we bring our operations to a close.
With gratitude,
Lake Tulloch Campground & Marina Management

Well that SUCKS !!! Apparently, they're not even going to TRY to find a way to make the lake available to ANY use of the camp grounds or the lake to any boating at all !! Probably if your boat is already on the water, but who knows. I'll miss this lake, it WAS one of my favorites !!!

Sounds like the guy running the campground is throwing in the towel. Someone else could come in and run it but I doubt the powers that make that decision will let anyone run it. The home owners have a private lake and the water districts have full control of the water. This has got to be illegal.
They could still open it up to boating but I doubt they're interested in doing that unless they're forced to by a court order.

This is the world we live in today. It certainly will not change with the authoritarian dictatorship known as California democrats in power.

This was posted on MyMotherLode.com today:

Jamestown, CA — The CAO of Tuolumne County is weighing in after the concessionaire of the Lake Tulloch Campground and Marina has announced it is ceasing operations, effective immediately.

Click here to view the earlier story, which cited, “conditions beyond their control, making ongoing safe and financially sustainable operations impossible.”

CAO Roger Root says his office received notification of the concessionaire’s intent through press inquiries late last week (Central Sierra Broadcasting is one of those who reached out).

Providing some context, Root notes that Tuolumne County had entered a 30-year lease with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife in 1993 to oversee the property on the shores of Lake Tulloch (Tuolumne County side), as it provides both recreational and economic benefits for local residents. The lease required the county to maintain the premises, make regular improvements, and provide public access to the lake. The county chose to engage a concessionaire to manage the campgrounds and marina throughout the duration of the lease with the state.

The 30-year-lease period expired in 2023, and negotiations related to renewing another long-term agreement with the state are still ongoing, and have been slowed by recent changes in leadership, and the Golden Mussel invasion in California. A concessionaire has continued to maintain and operate the grounds.

CAO Roger Root says in a statement, “Tuolumne County is a recreation destination and resolving the issues on South Shore Lake Tulloch is a priority for County staff. Tuolumne County recognizes that this closure has potential for recreational and economic impacts on the County. We are continuing to work with the Department of Fish and Wildlife in partnership to resolve the lease issue and minimize impact on recreation services. The County will pursue opportunities for concessionaire services as soon as the state lease is resolved and open the Lake Tulloch Campground and Marina as quickly as possible.”
