I came across a post on another fishing forum and am deeply saddened to say Tom passed away.
Here’s part of the post “Tom has passed away. His wife reached out to me yesterday to let me know that he injured himself Tuesday morning and succumbed to his injuries early Wednesday. ”
Such a loss to the fishing community. He was so generous with sharing his wealth of fishing knowledge. RIP Tom
I too appreciated how generous he was with his knowledge. Seeing a long post of his, you knew you were going to get something good. For many years I enjoyed his posts on this (and the other forum).
Sad news....Had him in my boat many times...always an enjoyable day... Always some good information about his home lake of Casitas to be had during the outing.
R.I.P. Tom
Remember ...What the Dormouse said...Feed your head!
Oh my terrible news rest in peace Tom and prayer to his wife and family.
He was a friend and a wealth of knowledge on fishing
over the years. I am shocked and sadden at the same time.

Tom and I talk fishing several months ago Tom was talking to me about the viper head jig and he wanted me to tie up a bunch of puffball jigs for him. I ask him if I sent him 100 3/0 and 4/0 mustad hooks would he pour me a 100 of each hook size. About two week later
I get a box from UPS from Tom my viper heads were here he also sent his Viper head with gamakatsu 4/0 for me to tie him up puffball jigs. When I open the box did I get a big surprise the bags of jig heads were stack on top of a mold I took it out the box it was the viper mold and a folded note tape to it. It read Mark I want you to have this mold. He said at my age now I won't be using it much longer and I know you will be able to put it to good use with your style of fishing. Guys it floored me I called him and offered to pay him for mold he said no if I need the jig heads you can make them for me he said with gamakatsu of course.
Here the custom mold from today ( c. 1972 )
I will miss him for sure.

I sent Tom a personal message some years ago inquiring about the origins and history of vinyl jig skirts and the football style jig heads because with his knowledge I just knew he would know . Not only did he promptly message me back and answer my questions Tom explained in detail about how it all started in So Cal in the 60's and who started it . He then asked If I would be interested in some old articles he had authored for bass fishing publications back in the day to which I promptly said YES and eagerly pored over them after he emailed them to me . Tom was the real deal with incredible knowledge of bass fishing past and present . I found this quote the other day and it certainly fits in this situation .
Every time an old man dies , Another library closes... RIP Tom
Tied up a bucktail in appreciation and to honor Tom’s willingness to share his vast knowledge and experience.
Had to go with a football head since I don’t have any viper heads…
Going to Casitas to fish it on Tuesday!

Sad news to learn that WRB - Tom Young has moved on to the great lake in the sky. He held so much knowledge, understanding and history of Bass Fishing especially related to California. Truly he will be missed - may his soul live on.

Jonathan, he witnessed and helped write the early history of bass fishing in Calf..
Pd these are the jig heads that Tom made famous over the years. These are the jigs I tied for him in his memory I showed some of the jigs so if you don't want to read or look at the post simply don't click on it.
It's really none of your business what I post in memory of Tom.

If you wanna see what a truly hateful POS jiggin is check out his posts in the political forum. He’s a racist and it goes way beyond politics. He reaps what he sows. No disrespect is intended to Mr Young.

You two are like a couple damn children. You guys should just have a dance off or cage fight and be done with it. But you really should stop your back and forth on what someone intended to be a tribute to WRB.
Yes Tom Young was a great person it still hurt to see him gone. I'll miss talking to him now. But what I gained by talking to him and learning about jig fishing from him the vast knowledge he had on the subject was unbelievable. The article he wrote on the subject the bass he caught. He will always be remembered what a great person and always wanting to help others. Taking time to talk and teach the craft he knew.
Thank again Tom I'll miss you buddy.
