Hyacinth and Ladds launch ramp

Post by K. Langer »

For anyone that used Ladds this weekend to fish most likely noticed the hyacinth blocking all three ramps. Well I went to Stockton Parks and Rec. to ask them to do something about this problem. I talked to Chris Mareno and he said that since the hyacinth is in the water it is up to Dept. of waterways to clean it up. (Its called passing the buck!!). Parks and Rec. could not do anything unless it is on the pavement. Well next time I go and find that stuff blocking the ramps I will have a rake with me and drag it up onto the pavement away from the ramps and see if it they do anything about it, (they will most likey just push it back into the water).

Don't see to bother them on the problem as they'er only interested in the launching fee.

Not trying to be contrary, but it is actually Dept. of Boating and Waterways responsibility. They are tasked with keeping waters of the State safe and navigable. Call Tim Artz and let him know. His staff should respond to the matter.

Good luck.

I was at Korth's a couple of weeks ago and they had a problem with hyacinths floating in their waterways and marina.

They're customer focused so they had 2 of their guys cleaning the hyacinths away from the marina. I guess they didn't realize that they took a job away from the Dept of Waterways.....

Like fishwithron2 said, Ladds is only interested in collecting the $$$ so that they can recover the money spent during their "remodel" job. Last year they had the same problem and you'll collect hyacinths and duck weed on your boat and trailer. We had to wash the boat and trailer at home so that we could remove the crap.

I'm not saying the marine can't/shouldn't take it upon themselves. I'm just saying that if they don't, there is someone you can call.

Heard they had the state in there monday and was spraying all the hyacinth. Most of it has been sort of kill off and it's really choke up in the back.
If the city collect the fee then they should at least make an effort to clear the stuff out so you can launch in and out.

If the State did spray inside Ladds launch ramp, thats good but as per Mareno at Parks and Rec. as long as the stuff is in the water they can't and won't touch it. Thats why I recomend using a rake to pull the stuff up on the ramp (on dry land) so the city has to remove it for safety reasons.

As you stated Ken, it's all comes down to pointing finger at each other as who's responsilble. Don't this remind you of two kids pointing finger at each other and saying " he did it ".'Just get the job done.
