Hi Chris, as a bass fisherman that seems to always need a prop straightened, cupped or tweeked, I was wondering if you can do it all? Bass guys are damned picky about their $600 props. How long have you been doing prop repair? Are you doing them yourself or sending them out? The thing about bass guys is you do a great job and they'll tell everyone, one bad job and the big mouths will kill ya.

Good luck on the new operation. From what I understand, prop repair takes alot of finesse, expertise and specialized equipment, especially when it comes to high-performance stainless steel props. Are you equipped to handle these repairs or limited to basic repairs &/or replacement??

I have all the equipment to repair hi performance ss props and aluminium props. You are right it takes a lot of expertise and finesse to do this. All props are balanced and SS are either polished or satain finished. I was lucky enough to be trained by the best. Chris

I was kind of wondering if that meant that the guys up the road at Phil's Props trained you because lord knows they've been doing it for years and I truly wouldn't send my business anywhere else. They've established a reputation with their customers that is second to none. They're also sponsors who actually support this website and have done so for a number of years.

I've allowed you to put this one time notice up as a courtesy but if you're going to make further posts on this subject you should really pick up a phone and call me or drop me an email.

Chris:

Knowing it is an enterprising world one would wonder why you would choose to put in a prop shop in the same town as a guy that has been doing it for so many years, has hundreds if not thousands of loyal customers and does a great job with same day turn around. I am really not wanting to offend you but this looks like a questionable business move.

Phil's has the knowledge of each of the different brands of boats, motors, tournament loads etc. that you can't learn in school and he has helped all of us out getting our boats to run good. I have left him my personal boat for several days so they could take it to the lake and test it out with different props etc. A guy has to have quite alot of faith in a business to leave them your boat to go race around the lake with.

Good luck I guess but I wouldn't want to get in a business that has guys like Phil and Gary at Tru Pitch because you are going to have the bar set pretty high.

Good Luck

Hello Chris ,
Are you the same Chris i talked to and that did the repair job on my prop at Phils ?
If you are, i need my prop fixed again , and the job you did last time was excellent !! My excessive RPM was brought down perfect and the bow lift on my boat by cupping the prop worked great , I also picked up quite a few MPH , i was very pleased !!
I will send you the prop if you are the same guy .
Thanks , Brian Ruthman

I've been a lurker on here for a while but this post got my eye, because of my obsession, fast fishing boats. ie: Champion, Allison.

I've had a few props tweeked by a few people over the years.

I notice in your introduction you have been in this tackle business for approxamently two years. Congratulations on passing the first year as most new businesses don't.

My questions, how much actual hands on experance in years you personally have in bass boat/other propeller repair?
Under who and where did you do your apprenticeship and how long?

In my line of work as a auto mechanic. I know it took 5 years of hands on experance before knowing where the problem wasn't! This was after 2.5 years of trade school.

36 years of paid for grease under the fingernails and still learning
every day.
I don't know enough, to leave well enough alone.

Hi Chris
You and I met a couple of years ago just as you were opening your tackle store. We discused your logic in opening a tackle store specializing in bass tackle with a great store already in town. Can you imagine my surprise when I saw your post that you were going to repair Prop's, it defies logic. Who is your Prop Guy and how much experience has he got L.O.L..

Congrats on the tackle biz and two years and still afloat I did question, however your venture into prop repair, when I read your post on tues. My first thought was why in Redding?

I'm all for free enterprise but as my last girlfriend used to say don't mess with the best ,cause the best don't mess....
Unless too many props and not enough turnaround time is an issue
Phil is the the master, has proven himself over MANY years has always kept his integrity and been the anglers friend , supplier and given support and gone the extra mile at a fair price

Lots more reels than props in use, reel repair?????

I do wish you the best , I feel genuine concern, the mandrels, blocks, tools and equipment for prop tooling must be expensive seems as tho you have made a calculated risk i'ts a free market only time will tell

the tackle buz ai'nt tough enough? you must have big ca-stoneys
the best way to catch a big one is don't lose um sharp hooks set drag retie!

I was suggesting reel repair for the attic for that area to off set the prop tool costs and possible lack of buz with props

I see buzzards circlin' if the attic dosent repair reels then have at it ....

Anyone who wants to go up against Iovino on ABU reel rebuilds start a shop in Burbank...and good luck.
