Thanks Larry Hemphill for the things that have gone unsaid

Post by Kelly Ripa »

I have never met you but I would like to thank you for your unflaging posting on the Fish Reports page. I try to post all my trips here in SoCal and if you look at our side of the forum you'll notice a lack of interest by anglers to give up any information on our little ponds. When I can get away I almost always post some information even though I might be sworn to secracy on some bits and pieces. I enjoy your posts and insightful information. The naming of baits, colors used and to a certain extent where you are fishing and the time of day that produced for you. There was a recent swing at you in the reports page that I found less than profound and more than stupid. Please don't let this kind of antagonism effect your positive attitude about your sport and what you have to share on and off the water with those of us who REALLY appreciate the effort on your part to share, inform and help the anglers that make up this site. Again thank you for the Voodoo that you do so well.

Wow - I think your post made my day!

What a special treat to read something so nice! I really appreciate it!! I enjoy helping folks better themselves in this great sport - whether beginner or pro. I am a teacher and that is what I do best (hopefully I can still catch a bass from time to time)! I am a person that tries to have a positive outlook all the time and I have a strong distaste for turmoil. There was often a lot of that in bass club meetings and one sees what can happen on this forum from time to time. A few have taken a swing at me from time to time but thankfully not often. Any public figure has to be prepared for that. The private appreciation e-mails I often get and wonderful comments like yours make me feel like maybe I am contributing in a small way to the overall quest for knowledge we are all seeking in this fabulous sport. Probably 90% of my guide trips have the same common denominator - people want to learn!!!

Larry is human and, like all of us, he has his detractors. But, of all the guys I know in bass fishing, Larry probably returns the most to the sport than anyone else. He is timely and honest in his reports. He reports on every trip. You don't see Gary D, Kent Brown, Jimmy Reese, Steve Sapp, Dee Thomas or any other major "name" in local bass fishing offering fishing reports, much less HONEST reports! Sure, these guys do seminars, work shows and I know Gary will always tell you the truth about how he's catching fish. But, he's not making any regular reports on the reports pages. I don't know of anyone who contributes more reliable information to the report pages than Larry.

Thank you Larry!

Dean, at a recent Folsom Bass Team meeting, Steve Sapp told us how he was catching fish, and donated a guide trip for raffle for the family of a long-time Folsom Bass Team member who passed away. I'd say he is the kind of guide who tells it like it is, even if it's not always in the reports section of this website. Not to take anything away from Larry H...

I thanked Larry by booking a trip with him. The fact that he takes the time to highlight what/when/where is working on the lake is invaluable to me and my family. So thanks for all you do Larry it is appreciated :)

I also try to follow his most excellent lead with reports of my own, but I'm better at writing in C++ so my reports are a lot less coloful, sorry :)
