Rivers End used to be Del's Harbor. Its out of Tracy (North) off of Byron Hwy.

Ladd's is in Stockton at the end of March Ln.

Every few years, a major tournament has a winner or someone who cashes a check out of Dels. This little dead end slough can not support the barage of boats that take lmits out of there. I have seen 12 boats in Dels before. It is well known that some of the Tracy boys will "restock" Dels on their own. There fore the fishing remains good and the place doesn't end up a dead slough.

Stocking Del's Question

Post by Wolfeman »

Fishin' Dave, I don't doubt for a minute what you stated, but I have a couple curious questions.
How long would the fish stay in that narrow area? And how 'catchable' would they be.

I'm certainly no expert on fish behavior, but I'd like to be. Here's some stuff:
- Ya catch six nice bass and ya take them to Del's and dump them in the water. Now 19 other folks do the same thing. That makes 120, newly caught fish (fish that have spent some time in a live well are probably dazed and confused fish) and now they are in a fairly small area.

My questions:
1. How soon would these 120 dazed and confused fish start actively feeding? We've all caught fish that had a crawdad in their throat and they are still trying to stuff more food in there, but I'm talking about those dazed and confused fish that have been in a live well for a few hours. How soon would they get active?
2. How much bait is around Del's to keep these fish in that small area? At some point ya gotta think that there would be too many bass vying for too small of a pool of bait. And then some of them would need to wander out of that area just to be able to eat.

Like I said, I don't doubt what you said about folks winning tournies in there, so please don't think I'm questioning what you said (I'm having bash-fear  )
What I'm trying to do is get a better knowledge of how these green beast react to a situation like that.
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks,
- Wolfeman

dead end sloughs are more recptive to stocking vs somewhere like Victoria. These fish are thrown in year round for the spring tournaments primarely After Mitch won that tournament, the place got decimated. Then guys forget about it, it gets restocked, then next major tournament BAM someone finishes high up there fishing Dels. These fish will not bite right away, but will stay in there for the most part. Another great feature of Dels is the pumps. That suction pulls bait in for easy pickins, but is too swift most of the time for a bass to fight to leave. Another bonus is the 20ft deep hole near the pumps. Check is out sometime and ask around.

I grew up fishing that area and it always as been a great late season area..My thought always was that the the food chain was being drawn towards the pumps. Years with lots of Hyacinths even seemed better. ,The roots of these plants are loaded with shrimp (pull one up and check it out)..This is prime food for pan fish which are prime fall food for largies...By the way, nice fish Dom..

I dont know if its the same fish or not but it is a big fish spot. This fish is 10 or better its stretched the hooks on my Bassman Lures POPPER twice first was a VMC (ok my fault) the second was a gammy and tonight I just did not get the big Owner in him! So I am going to try this week end hopefully I will be posting a real toad picture soon. You take care and dont be a stranger

Hey Dave

I know what your talking about and stocking has been disscussed on here numerous time over the past years. For example there was rumors of Sapp stocking fish and tieing crawdads with red string.I personally dont believe it works. For the last 3 years I have been fishing out of Rivers End faithfully (I have fished the delta for years longer) I have marked areas from Old River around Quin's Isl to Victoria Canal.

I have marked spots and even fish and I have caught countless fish out of the same spots but never the same fish.I beleive this place is stocked full already and it holds a good population of fish all year long. They are easy to find but are alot harder to catch for reasons you mentioned, the place is just to small of an area meaning these fish get pounded on more often there are days and times of the year the bite gets hot one day then lock jaw the next I have had this happen in the fall alot.

Lately I have been able to get those fish to bite I have just changed my aproach and slowed way down most of the times I am just dead sticking the bait in the hole (hint) Also I have learned the pumps can really screw things up down here if the pumps are runnin strong the tide either drops quicker or it never comes up which seems like it would be cool all the way around becuase it would position the fish and concentrait them for easier access like other parts of the delta but when this happens the fish lock up and are harder to catch. its like they have been condition to the cycle and if it skips one they know not to bite because we can find em easier . (quessing, I dont know why?)

And another thing I have learned about this place , If we get a summer storm and its raining and nasty this place turns on fire!

Now if I can just make em bite all the time and on the right days LOL LOL LOL

Never did my friend until I was asked to.

Please do not label me some sort of hot head or something.

Dom has been a member here for about as long as I have and we know each other's posting habits and I have met him at Dave's before. I would never discredit anyone's fish.

My comment was" Dem Tracy boys have been stocking Dels up good huh?" Short and sweet. Dom wasn't sure what I meant, so I explained after being asked. Wolfeman then wanted a better explanition for himself so I provided it.

So that is is my friend. I'm sorry you had to make me out to be putting people down, but that is not what I am about.

As far a me relaxing man, that ain't going to happen with the likes of guys like Seig, Gator, Cooch, Dom and Rod Martin just waiting to bust me  Throw in a being new father and taking care of a new born and you get one tight wound dude. I've gotta be to survive! I hope we're square.

You may want to check Pilot, it's off the hook again.

The "South Restocking Program" has moved over to Tracy Oasis. Every once in a while, one or two strays over to Del's. HAR!

No problem Curtis. Someone asked me the other day why guys are bad mouthing Gary Dobyns on the site. I had to explain the way it worked and they all know each other. With the way things have gone here lately, I don't blame you for that assumption

Rod, call me up. I hope Tulloch is still standing after this weekend. It was like NASCAR, 5 boats wide, no joke!
