I will never forget...9/11/01

Post by BassTraveler »

The innocent people who died.
I fished the Bob's Marine Owners Tournament this weekend and had a blast.
This is in part due to our brave men and women who will do anything to keep their people out of harm.
I want to "Thank" all the Armed Forces for keeping my family and all of us safe five years after the "Attack".
We took the fight to them, and let's hope our politicians have the balls to hunt these terrorists down, where ever they may lurk.

God Bless America and let's keep her and her children safe.

So true!

Post by NaCl »

Tommorrow marks one of the most important dates in modern US history. Do we, as a nation, still have the resolve to stay the course in our fight against terrorists? I hear far too many "commentators" on New York-based television networks and many shameful politicians who are ready to cave in to the ongoing pressure by these pigs. I hope the people of this great nation have the collective backbone to ignore those cowards and finish the job. And if (as some say) the job will never be "finished", then let's continue fighting these scumbags in THEIR backyards to keep them away from our nation. And, may God bless the troops who take risks so that WE may live in peace!

Amen to that! We can NEVER FORGET 911 and the horror that took place. I'm all for hunting down those cowards and taking them out before they take us out. It simply comes down to KILL OR BE KILLED.

I remember it as it was yesterday, It was the last US OPEN that I fished. 1 hour before weight in on Sept 11 I was fishing near the Hoover dam and wondered why all the guys with M-16's were looking at me funny? I decided it was time to leave and try a reef before coming in to find out by the guy at Won Bass holding the flag and taking our flight number down saying we were attacked, bull $shi+ I said, no the USA was attacked this morning.

Into the lounge and bar area as soon as the fish were weighed to see for myself that America this wonderful place that I call home was attacked.

I remember Bush's first speech after, I have been in many and I mean many casino's in my short life all around the world and I have never ever seen one stop action until that night when Mr. Bush came on and addressed the people of this great nation. Every blackjack dealer, craps dealer stopped there games, the slot machines turned slient and all throughout the casino was Mr. Bush addressing the nation! Never before have I seen anything like that.

Now 5 years later I am in the last 7 months of my term serving this great nation. I have been over in the gulf for my time and now I get to deal with N. Korea all the time. I love this land we live on and thankful to my father and his father and everyone else who served before me to make me have the option to do what I want to do with my life and be free!!

Long live the USA! The place I call home!

Howard Stern is playing the full radio commentary from that tragic day. Not an interpretation of what one felt, but the actual events unfolding, I am reminded of the surprise and total shock I felt that morning. Here in CA I felt stunned, we didnt work that day we went to work and watched TV. We tried to make phone calls to loved ones and did not get through. We watched the tragedy unfold before our eyes. All that I can say is thank you to all of those men and women for thier service to our country.

Remember always

Post by Scott D. »

I remember that morning well. It took me 2 1/2 hours to get on base to work because they were checking every car thoroughly as they came in the gate. It took me 2 hours to make the last 1 mile stretch to the gate and I was afraid that I was going to be on channel 24 news taking a dump on the side of the road because my coffee was really loosening things up!!! That would have been embarrassing. the biggest point I want to make here though is that I am SAD that it takes something of the magnitude of 9/11 to wake this country up(the liberals) to get patriotic, then they only stay that way for about 2 weeks, then go right back to wanking about "why are we still in Iraq", yada yada yada. They don't stop to relize that their right to speak their rubbish is because of the men and women in uniform. Why does it take extremely bad news to make people feel proud to be American? Everytime I drive along the freeway and see Old Glory flying somewhere, I feel a rush of pride. I can't hear the Star Spangled Banner without feeling a tingle from head to toe, and a tear in my eye. My message is, to those that don't feel that same feeling, France will welcome you to move there, and I won't miss you. For those that feel that feeling, thank you for your support. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!

To the men and women of our armed forces who allow us to sleep in peace each night by protecting us from our enemies. Also a big thanks to those who serve us all through there work here at home as firemen, police, teachers, and etc.

While we all should remember 9/11 we must also remember with pride that they have given us ther best shot and we remain. We cannot allow fear to rule our lives or force us to spend away our freedoms and economic prosperity.

“Where were you when you first heard about the unprovoked attack on this country? What were your first thoughts? What did those images on the television screen mean to you? What did you think when you saw people jumping from those skyscrapers? Those moments will stay in memory with as much impact as the stark images from the attack on Pearl Harbor. The video and still photographs of the smoking twin towers are as dramatic as any in history. They had a powerful impact on us.

Immediately after the attacks - immediately after the collapse of the towers, the plane into the Pentagon and the crash in the Pennsylvania field, our country was filled with waves of patriotism. There were flags everywhere, including on cars and trucks. People wore lapel pins of flags and red, white and blue. People talked about love of country and a desire to defend ourselves from the enemy that attacked us and killed more than 3,000 innocent civilians - men, women and children. We were shocked, angry, and united. That was then; what about now? A lot has changed. There is Afghanistan and Iraq. There was Madrid and London. There’s Al Qaida, and Hamas and Hezbollah and a whole alphabet-soup of terrorist organizations we’d never heard of and never thought we’d ever need to know about. There are other images in our memories, too. The faces of men like Daniel Pearl and so many others. There are the scenes of beheadings, the sounds of the killings and the screams of the victims. There are news videos of people cheering the senseless brutality and swearing to continue it. We’ve heard the words of many of those people and their leaders promising to convert us or kill us; promising to rid the world of the infidel. I’m not sure we believe them. I’m not certain we realize that when they say they’ll kill the infidel, they mean us . . . not just our military and our politicians; they also mean our families and our children. I’m not certain we fully realize that the same brutality shown to those who were beheaded is intended for us.

The people who perpetrated the 9/11 attacks had a purpose, which has not diminished in the five years since; they intend to kill us and to end Western life as we know it.
It’s politically incorrect to say things like that today, and that’s most unfortunate. The terrorists take advantage of our naiveté. Unfortunately, that will be the end of us unless we look back at 9/ll and recapture the unity of patriotism of that terrible day. Without it, it’s just a matter of time. With it, the excellence of America will be victorious and the free world will have a future.

Remember the Alamo. Remember the Maine. Remember Pearl Harbor. Remember 9/11.
Never, ever forget. God Bless America.â€

Thank you Marty for posting that. It is an unfortunate fact that some of our elected officials and the "radical left" and even the media are trying to pull us right back to the way we were on September 10, 2001. You have to wonder.

Prayers and appreciation from the bottom of my entire family's heart go out to our troops, our veterans, our police, our firefighters, our paramedics, all of you who give up so much and dedicate yourselves to allow us to continue our freedoms.

the war on terror will never end. this is not a 5 year fight or ten years its forever. those terrorists have one thing in mind, and thats kill us. they will never quit. their commitment is so strong that they are willing to commit suicide just to kill us. our troops will be fighting over seas forever. if you sign up for our arm forces you will go to war in some way or another. its not like it use to be. when some people would sign to better their lives, to do something instead of being a bum, loser, etc. GOD BLESS ALL OF OUR TROOPS. they are in for the long haul. we as a nation must never back down. there is no retreat. F##K the liberals who ask that we bring our troops home. we are not quiters, we are AMERICAN. we are the only real super power. if they want to f##k with us, we will come and we will kick their *** on their playing field. once again this war is forever so supporting our troops is a must. there will be no sugar coating here either.

9/11 A day of rememberance-not politics.

Post by Dan McKenzie »

To those who gave it all that day, thank you. To all those who lost their lives just doing what they do, going to work, going to school, dropping the kid off at day care, going to the post office, walking accross the street, may god keep you. To all those in service of this country, you are appreciated more than you will ever know.

For me, to politicize such a tragic day is a tragedy in itself. Those who died will not be counted as liberals or conservatives, they were simply Americans, doing their jobs, just ordinary folk going about their business, just plain ol red, white and blue Americans.
The emergency personnel, they weren't conservatives or liberals, they too were Americans, hero's each and every one of them.

That's the way I will remember them. The blame for this doesn't lie with liberals or conservatives, it lies squarely on the shoulders of the religous zealots who chose to commit this atrocity.

9/11was an evil act by evil people, against innocent Americans. I will always remember.

Yeah, please vote consertives in to office. Opps, there are none out there. Opps, here goes a political thread. Anyway, my feeling echos Dean's, lets get some back bone and finish the job. I still get choaked up and upset when I see 9/11/01 footage. The next time I watch something like that happen, sadness will turn to anger. Another attack of that size will be a giant failure, and the end of life as you know it. Sorry to paint a bad picture, but I see more danger in this world than is reported on the nightly news.

Thank God there are still heros in this world. Always be ready, tomorrow you may need to be a hero.

Not one person here in this thread has placed blame on any American or political party for the events of 9/11/2001. I do however, choose to fly my flag and remind people that it's not rhetoric and cruise missles that protect this country.
I choose to remember not only that day in history but the events of each and every day since. This anniversary of a tragic event is just a reminder that we have a long road in front of us and without strong leaders who are willing to make the hard choices, we will have many more "days of remembrance" to look forward to.
If that offends you, change the channel.

Sincerely,

Commentary on the Pledge of Allegiance
by Red Skelton

As a schoolboy, one of Red Skelton's teachers explained the words and meaning of the Pledge of Allegiance to his class. Skelton later wrote down, and eventually recorded, his recollection of this lecture. It is followed by an observation of his own.

I - - Me; an individual; a committee of one.
Pledge - - Dedicate all of my worldly goods to give without self-pity.

Allegiance - - My love and my devotion.

To the Flag - - Our standard; Old Glory ; a symbol of Freedom; wherever she waves there is respect, because your loyalty has given her a dignity that shouts, Freedom is everybody's job.

United - - That means that we have all come together.

States - - Individual communities that have united into forty-eight great states. Forty-eight individual communities with pride and dignity and purpose. All divided with imaginary boundaries, yet united to a common purpose, and that is love for country.

And to the Republic - - Republic--a state in which sovereign power is invested in representatives chosen by the people to govern. And government is the people; and it's from the people to the leaders, not from the leaders to the people.

For which it stands

One Nation - - One Nation--meaning, so blessed by God.

Indivisible - - Incapable of being divided.

With Liberty - - Which is Freedom; the right of power to live one's own life, without threats, fear, or some sort of retaliation.

And Justice - - The principle, or qualities, of dealing fairly with others.

For All - - For All--which means, boys and girls, it's as much your country as it is mine.

And now, boys and girls, let me hear you recite the Pledge of Allegiance:
I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic, for which it stands; one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Since I was a small boy, two states have been added to our country, and two words have been added to the Pledge of Allegiance: Under God. Wouldn't it be a pity if someone said that is a prayer, and that would be eliminated from schools, too?
Red Skelton

Sombering Pictures...

Post by Ken C. »

From another site. Unfortunately half the pictures aren't coming up.

http://www.zombietime.com/wtc_9-13-2001/

Everyone who feels we need to "Bring 'Em All Home" needs to look at these pictures and think back to how you felt that day. Think about the thousands of families that were torn apart...... Think about how you felt when you realized that someone out there would like nothing better than to kill your entire family and they would be proud of that accomplishment........ Think about those who lost their lives trying to save anyone they could that day....... Think about how your family would feel if you were to never come back from work......

I hope and pray our country never becomes so complacent or 'accomodating' again that something like this would ever happen.

Observations the night of Sept 11!

Post by Larry Hemphill »

I appreciate all the postings concerning this horrific event. I was guiding the night of Sept 11 at Amador - something I have done hundreds of times. This was after watching TV most of the day. Amador and the three other nearby lakes are in the flight path of many airlines coming and going to Sac and the bay area. Clients, friends, and I have seen or heard maybe 50 planes come and go over head each night, and if the fishing is slow we tend to watch them more! That night - NO planes except 2 military jets and a huge C-197 or something like that. It lumbered up from the Sac area at very low altitude, made a wide 180 degree turn above Amador and surrounding hills, and headed back the direction it came. I always wondered of that was one they were testing and going to press into service. That evening 9/11 became very real to me.

I agree with you that this tragic event shouldn't be politized. This Great country did unite after 9/11/2001, but the question I have is, what happened? Who started drawing lines among us for their polictical gain, with no real plan of action? Who had a pair and decided to finally take it to these murdering bastards?
Do we have to wait for another catastrophe to unite again as a country? That's my biggest fear and I am afraid that if a majority of let's cut and run libs get into office that will increase the odds of that happening.
I know this is a difficult fight and differences of opinion are par the course. In my opinion we waited to long. We shopuld of taken to these murdering piles after Beruit. That was right after I finished my service to this country, and I would of re-upped in a second if I was needed.
Like I said in my original post, we have enough problems with the party running things now, and in 82.
I pray that someone with some common sense can one day unite all of us and we can win this horrible war.

I get interrupted and side tracked during a lot of my posts. I 'm at work and they get first priority and a lot of my posts seemed fragmented, that's the reason why.
What I wanted to say is that I 'm not a war monger and would hate to see anyone or anything get hurt for someone else's agenda. These radicals want nothing but to kill us all unless we convert to thier faith. They are not stupid and they will use any tactic nessesary to carry out thier evil deeds. It's very unfortunate that the world has reached this sorry state. I for one am not going to hide my head in the sand and hope it goes away. This is one way to be heard, and yes it should probably be on the political forum, but it's here for now.
Side tracked again! See you on the water and God Bless America!

I also was at the U.S. Open. I was fishing up the Overton and had a good bag with a good fish in my livewell. I was happy and smilling all the way in. When I got to boat check I was told we were attacked and we were going to war. I was in shock and went to weigh in with a dazed look on my face. I ended up catching 1 of the big fish for the day. I should have been all smiles but instead I was wanting to see my wife and kids. They were going to be flying out that morning from Vegas to home. Instead they were all in my room waiting to see me as well. I didn't even bother telling them about my day as I just wanted to see them and see the shocking news on the t.v.
I have not fished many open's since that day for many reasons.
The Open has never been the same for me since then and will probably stay that way for me the rest of my life.
God bless all of those families who lost a loved one and god bless our troops for such an outstanding job they have done and are doing right now.

I can't forget.

Hunt them down.

Another weird thing that happened that day, one of my directors takes vacation to go to the Reno air races, or show. Everything was grounded. So they took the old corsairs, p-51s, etc. and towed them around in front of the stands. Kind of ironic, the old fighting planes unable to go up, because we were at war.

Another tidbit, I was shown a picture of some young servicemen in Afganistan. The Grandfather proudly stated they were on the front, trying to find Bin Laden. It was a group photo, and they were all holding extensively modified M-16 variants. The thing that struck me about the photo, there was nothing macho, or Rambo about the guys holding thier weapons. But they were obviously so important, nobody would set one down, and even at rest, they were at ready. Their small arms were vital to survival, and you could tell the rifles were too important to set down even for a moment for a photo. They were the key to staying alive.

Ray,

I guess we share something in common about the Open, I had a chance to fish it again this year but turned it down as it has not excited me since then. I can remember the way i felt as i idled my boat in just like you did. My parents were there with me at the time.
