What's My Champ Worth

Post by BMC »

I did some researching online and the general concensus was my 1997 186 Champion DCX Elite with 150 Merc EFI had a low appraisal of 12K to a high of 15K. Anyone else had and sold a similar Champ recently? Boat is in excellent condition because it doesn't get used

On the open market you may be hard pressed to get the 12k. If you really want to be on top of the selling game go to Anglers and have them give the engine a clean bill of health in terms of compression and going through it all. Keep that on file and show it to your buyers.

Clean up the wires and bilge area, wax it and ask for 13.5k A 97' 18' with a 150 you will probably get about 12k for it.

Good Luck!

That sound reasonable, and about what I expected. Last servicing was over the winter, but it has only seen the water twice since last winter. Thanks for your tips. I'll have to clean it up and flood the avenues hoping for some interest.

You can be one of the guys that have your boat listed for two years, and never sell it due to unreasonable price, or you can sell it in a week with a good price. It all depends on how bad you want to get rid of it.

Best advice is to trade it on your new boat purchase, selling it on own your own is next to impossible. Take a look at the ads in WON classified and see how long they sit. I had a 97' 202 Champ with a 225 EFI and didn't get one response @ $15,000 in 3 months of adverstising..and that was 2 years ago. I ended up buying a new boat from Anglers Marine and received close to my asking price as a trade in. With lakes like Diamond Valley requiring a 3 Star rating, EFI's are almost impossible to sell in CA. Try selling it on all of the free on-line websites, Western Bass has a good classified section. Keep reducing price until it sells. The best way to sell it is to find a non-boater who is ready to step up and offer him a good deal.

Good Luck.

But I don't want a new boat :D
The last one was the worst financial decision I ever made, one I am still trying to catch up with, so no new boat. I don't even fish anymore anyways now that I am in shooting sports. I'll end up dumping it cheap, and still be paying on that loan for the next five or more years.
