Lynne- National Bass West- What gives?
Is Cory getting the boat? Did Cory and partner(whom he fished the classic with) offically "WIN"? What's NBW stance on this? Just looking for some answers that have been asked of me today. How did this "team" make the classic and if they didn't, how did they get to be at the classic. For all of you guy's that are looking to jump on me, Back off- I don't so much blame Cory for any of this but he does have a 50% part in this, carma prevails!!!!

How do you protest such a thing at the time?In my opinion not knowing Cory If he honestly thought he had qualified for the tourney with that partner and received the invitation then NBW royally fucked up.As I sit here I received an Invitation for the WON fishoff this weekend but when looking at the travelers points we ended up in 11 place which is not highlighted thus we should have not received the letter.Me and Rex decided we would not fish it for this very reason.I cant beleive this happened Imagine if we fished and won the tourney this weekend(We were on winning fish last week)
What then.I guess if the ORG fucks up then its up to you what to do.

Re: Lynne- National Bass West- What gives?
Well Rick if Cory had qualified with the partner he fished with on Sunday then I could see what you are saying. He signed the name of his partner "Joe" on the first tourney entry and fished alone, then fished with a "Mike" for three tourneys and then asked to have his first tourney partner changed to "Mike". Well to qualify for the classic you have to fish four tourneys with the same partner. That would be Mike, not Joe. Well Joe was the partner he fished with at Havasu thus he disqualified himself for fishing with someone that never was his partner in NBW. This is pretty much cut and dry for me but we'll see what happens. My personal veiw of this is that Cory kick our butts but he broke the rules thus he should give back anything he received and learn from the mistake. NBW should have not let the "Team" fish together so they are at fault for not catching the deal before they launched. NBW thought that Cory was going out Sunday with Mike, but infact it was Joe. We might need to look at ID's before the tourney but I think that's going overboard. So how does a "TEAM" win a tourney they should have not been to. I guess we'll find out. Roumer has it that we'll find out more around Wednesday.

Nice!
Whether Cory and his partner qualified or not, they beat the rest of us fair and square. Give them the cash and the boat, but for god sake's straighten out your system. And that extra $5 you charged us for the release boat has got to go to. I was in the second flight and by the time I got our measely limit of rats to the boat it was already full and headed out of the marina, so what, did the next 60 boats just dump their fish off the dock? I saw one fish that was at least 5 lbs struggle to swim off...almost like it needed to be needled. I dont remember a $5 charge last year either, does anyone else?
The issue of whether or not Cory and his partner qualified is NOT on them, its on NBW and its ownership.
This entire situation is unbelievable to me, and then again it is not. It goes right in line with everything else that has happened with NBW over the last 6 months. It wasnt broke last year and most of this year, yet someone felt changes were needed.
One other queston... Did the winners get their cash and the boat or not??? Thru all this I dont know what happened????

Re: Lynne- National Bass West- What gives?
Why should Cory get anything? If??????? He violated the rules, then they should not receive anything, no money, no boat, NOTHING! For them to receive anything is sending a message to the fisherman, if you break the rules maybe you will get DQd or maybe you will just get part of the prize. What a JoKe!

Don't hate the player, hate the GAME.
Guy, I think that you have every right to question the organization as to how they elected to run their event and to enforce their rules and qualifying process. However, the angler(s) in question knowing or unknowingly were allowed to fish the event by the Tournament Director and thus the organization. Once in, they had every right to what ever prizes they won.
The issues of qualifying and/or correct partners are something that an organization should keep at the forefront of their events. The organization in question made several key oversights that led to this situation and it should have (could have) been corrected before announcing the winner or publishing partners and so forth.
I have fished several national championships where I competed against anglers that did not meet the qualifying criteria. Maybe to your surprise, but this practice is not uncommon. Most organizations reserve the right work down the list of anglers or teams once a qualifying angler or team has elected not to fish the championship. I guess that many of us assumed that the same practiced happened at Havasu.
I would expect that a tournament organization bares the responsibility to keep track and notify anglers about championships and so forth.
Given the events that led up to the current situation, the organizations bares the responsibility to Cory and his partner(s) and /or the other teams that may not have been aware that the organization may have made oversights with their qualifying process.
I think that it’s one thing to fish a championship with an angler that you know that you didn’t fish with, it’s another to receive an initiation with one of two partners only to be questioned by anglers who feel that they were slighted.
The real issues are with the organization that allowed such a thing to happen. Cory won based on the allowances afforded by the tournament organization. Once they allowed him and his partner entry into the tournament they had every right to win based on their performance.

I was very impressed with Corys posting last week on how he and his partner won the tourny. Now I think it was a bunchof scribble. Not knowing Cory but being around here fishing since 1974 I find it hard to believe that He did not know the rules of participation allowing a team to make a fishoff. If he is guilty and if he had any SPALDINGS he would and should forfit his winnings. As for NBW, the moment JB left I knew it was just a matter of time b4 somehing like this would happen. If they want to save themselves as a creditable organization, They need to to make right a huge mistake on their part.

Fortunately, laws and rules aren’t governed by feelings or emotions; they are governed by words, their meanings, modifications and exemptions.
In this case, the organization provided an exemption that alowed the anglers in question to fish the event.

The question is, did joe receive an invitation to the fishoff? Because my invitation does not list who made it. It just says, due to your participation and standings, your TEAM has qualified for this tournament. Its up to me to know who I qualified with.

Re: foolishone-Whatcha talkin bout!
The 2nd ? did they know who was fishing with cory the second day its 430 in the morning 116 boats getting inspected and launching. Did cory stop and say hey I have a new partner today may I fish with him. Shabazz has alot to say, but wasn't even there. Third I mention something to my partner during the awards, but he said I was mistaken, I'm not hearing it right. Well I guess i did hear it right. I beleive cory did some great fishing out there, but if he broke the rules, and to not know the rules is crazy, you have to think hey i only fished once with this guy can i really quallify with him. Or do us the people looking in on this not seeing or reading everything correct I wish nbw would clear up some of this madness.

BEFORE THIS THREAD GOES NUTZ.....
Perhaps we should sit back and wait for Lynne or NBW to come up with an answer rather than all of our speculation and innuendo. I personally can see a lot of sides to all of this but shouldn't we defer this to the organization and await a reply? My .02 cents/adjusted for inflation
I'm guessing this is fairly painful for those that are truely involved

I understand the complications/implications for NBW and crew
But they need to get something to the masses even if it is legalistic brewhaha. It is the organization and the well being of the years of hard work bringing their circuit to fruitation that is in jerpordy. If only for appearances some words are better than no words. To at least acknowledge that there are issues would compel one to take a wait and see attitude as opposed to the never again that has already reared it's head here.

Sorry NBW. WON and 100% here we come..
Re: Acknowledgment that there is an issue...
I still cannot believe there are idiots out there defending this behavior. The tournament director cannot arbitrarily violate the written rules. If everything is up to the discretion of the tournament director, then who protects the fishermen when a tournament director makes a special allowance for his buddy? Are you going to go protest that? He made the decision and is going to tell you to go f-yourself. That is why tournaments have written rules! Sportsmanship is another issue, but you guys (like RickyShabazz) don't think that is anyones concern. I noticed he (and Ricky) fishes the FLW and SPORTSMANSHIP is rule #1. You guys that are defending this need to take a hard look at yourselves because you have gotten way off base.
Ask yourselves 1)Did NBW screw-up?, probably. 2)Did Cory know he didn't qualify?, yup. 3) Is taking advantage of someone elses mistake and and hurting other competitors considered good sportmanship?, ABSOLUTELY NOT! 4) How would you feel if you lost $2,000 or $15,000 or whatever because of someone elses "mistake"? Damn, I said I was not going to get back into this but absolute lack of anything resembling character by some of you guys chaps my a55@

First off, yes Cory caught them!! Second, neither Cory nor any other angler can just take anyone out to fish a Classic, you qualify with a "SET" partner, in this case was "Mike". Joe had "NO RIGHT" to be at this tournament. Cory should have, if he was a stand up guy, tell NBW that Joe was not his partner and that "Mike" was period. I can't take anyone else but my "SET" partner to the classic no matter who NBW puts next to my name. Cory "KNOWINGLY" took out an angler that he did not qualify for the NBW classic. By the way you guy's are going about it if the IRS gave me 100,000 dollers instead of 10,000 I would be able to keep it, while I have a copy of my returns as 10,000 dollers. It just don't work that way!!! You would have to give back 90,000. I don't know Cory but after the deal with the donut in the morning, I know that he knows he jacked up. Was it all his fault? NO!! Should he have set the name straight? YES!! Clerical errors don't give you free range to do what you want, he knows who he fished with to qualify and that should be the end of it. I hope NBW will ask Cory for the money back and not give him the boat. That's what should happen, period! As we all have heard "Two wrongs do not make a right"!!!!!

Thank you. Your question restores my faith in humanity. He should give the money back knowing that a mistake was made and he benefited from it at the expense of others. In my opinion that would make him a good role model for his "friends" on this website who obviously need one. It looks like he is a good stick and judging by the amount of tournaments he fishes, he wants to step up to another level. You cannot do that if your ethics are not intact. Guys at the pro level dq themselves all the time when they realize they mistakenly violated tournament rules. It is a solo sport for the most part and you have to police yourself, that's what sportsmanship is all about.....

Come on RJ-It is very easy to play Monday night quarterback from the sideline.
How about waiting for all of the facts before you rush to judgment. The name calling only proves that you cannot communicate without resorting to behavior that no one else has had to use.
Nice of you to research Cory and my stats. I guess we cannot do the same for you because you are hiding behind a false screen name.
Guy-I see your points and I think that we should wait to hear all of the facts or parts before anyone decides what should or could ahve happened.

Re: rj
rj what do you gain if cory forfits his winnings. are you next in line, second place, you know second place is the first sore loser
if it walks like duck, quack like a duck, it's a duck
the facts
You guys need to chill and wait until the facts are revealed. There are 20 teams that stand to move up the ladder (and winnings) if the first place team is dq'ed. I think any questions should be directed to the org, as many of you might have claim to more money(it's not just the boat in question here). I don't know Cory from a box of donuts, but I believe that he fished all the qualifying events "solo" with a partner listed in name only. The exemption or whatever that allowed him to fish the Classic was not self-imposed, he was allowed to sign up and fish. Doesn't every TOC have a qualifier list for signups? Seems all I've been to do.
Re: rj
I only started this to find out what had happened because when I read the website, it looked as though Cory didn't qualify. Frankly, the defensive attitudes of many put me on alert that there was something going on here that didn't pass the BS sniff test. When I was informed, by the person in question, that it was an error on the part of the tournament director that allowed him to even fish. I believe, and I would hope that most of you believe, that the right thing for him to have done is to inform the tournament director of his mistake. That certainly would have been the ethical thing to do. To me this is the only issue here. Not who caught the most, or who has a good legal defense or who is arm-chair quarterbacking or what happened in the past or who was first sore loser (stupid comment by the way) or anything else. There is only one fact here that matters; Cory and his partner took advantage of someones mistake/laspe of judgement for personal gain at the expense of fellow competitors. That is poor sportsmanship no matter how you want to try to portray it.rj what do you gain if cory forfits his winnings. are you next in line, second place, you know second place is the first sore loser
To really answer your question: I live in Arizona, I do not have anything to do with anyone involved in the tournament, ie: I have nothing to gain other than the satisfaction that the anglers who were screwed now have a voice in resolving this mess. I don't know that without this forum, the anglers who are affected would even know about it.
I have refrained from jumping in on this thread...
...as there are those who would claim that my position is biased because of my association with WON BASS. However, this thread appears to be heading down a potentially ugly path and I would certainly hate to see any friendships lost over it. Perhaps it would be best if we simply let it die.
There is little doubt in my mind that this situation is going to end up in a civil courtroom. If Cory is denied his winnings, he would have a very strong case. That being said, Bill McAninch and Glen Dooley (and those down the line respectively) would also have a strong case based on the circumstances.
Regardless, it would probably be in everyone's best interest to allow the parties involved in this unfortunate situation to work it out amongst themselves.
Ironically, we had a meeting of the WON BASS South regional directors at last year's Tri-States and addressed the "solo angler" issue. As a result, a decision was made at that time to amend our rules to govern such a situation. Here is what we came up with:
C. Solo Anglers - No Team/Angler may fish more than 3 team tournaments solo without a partner. Anglers fishing more than 3 events in region solo will not have their points counted towards the year end points race.
I am not saying that WON BASS has all of the answers, nor am I bashing any of the other tournament organizations, but we (the WON BASS regional directors and Bill Hutcheson) thought that a situation such as this could possibly arise and we elected to address it and include it in our 2006-2007 rules. Our decision was based on the fact that, by virtue of their very name, these are "Team Tournaments".
I'm out of this one.

Re: How do you say...Can we all just get along?
I agree Ron that this is headed to a court battle. I feel that all anglers that were at Havasu are involved in this because there is the potential for a change in the standings. Therefore there is a possible change in the payout for many teams. There is a lot more here than just who won and who screwed up the rules eventhough I know who screwed up in the long run. Yes Cory won and kicked our butts and he deserves the win. But also Glenn and his partner also deserve a boat because Cory got in because the rules were changed by the directors. I am wondering if the so called vice president Ai at Aim Marine is willing to give up 2 boats.
It looks like that is the way it is going to go. Whether it happens or not before it goes to court is another thing. Again this effects a lot more teams than just 2. This effects all the teams that won money and it now also effects the first team out of the money.
We have rules for a reason and tournament directors are the one's to enforce them. They are supposed to be hard nosed with them and stand firm. Not change the rules just to be nice.
