Delta Report 10-10-06--> 25 lb leaf spring

Post by toadhunter »

Well, my fishing day started off great. Got up on time (3:45) to make the 2:15 hr drive to do some pe-fishin on the Delta. Had the lunch made, the tackle stored, the gas filled, the rods loaded.....and then WHAM! Blew out a leaf spring on the trailer 1 hr into the ride.... I was 1hr and 15 mins away!!!!!!!! 5:15 am My cousin and I are standing on the side of 101 looking at the issue, looking at eachother..... and crying out loud! It also popped the tire in the process. This is the same tire I had just replaced 3 weeks prior due to wear and tear. BS! I say.

Do you think we had the nessacary tools to fix this problem on hand? Correct, HELL NO we didn't. We had to wait until 7 am when Orchard Supply opened just to get the right tools. Then we had to wait until 9am when the trailer service company opened.(Orlandi trailers on 280/Winchester has a lot of "trailer parts" at very resonable prices...$40.56 for leaf spring). And about 8 hrs later, badck at home, not one rods line even saw water let alone touched it.

After all this I will now carry the right tools(standard/metric)socket set, floor jack, JACK SATNDS, portable air compressor($45 online) and now also 1 extra leaf sping...I replaced both even though only 1 broke and am now carrying the "old GOOD one" as a back up. --> I know I should have thought of ALL of these before.

Leason Learned: Most of these items mentioned above can be easily and neatly stowed in a plastic container such as the ones found at Walmart for about $8...... Had this happened the day I planned on heading up to the tourny, lets just say there wouldnt be a fish scared of me......

Best 5 fish today= 0.00lbs= Leader after day 1 for slacker awarness; plan ahead!!!!

Be safe out there everyone, and plan for the unplanned.

Mike, you puzzle me like everyone else in the NBW TOC this past weekend? The bite out there is really good right now, especially today. Either yer nose is growing like Pinnoccio, or it's been a while and ya really don't have a clue! It's yer kinda bite dude, ceptin ya need ta put that BobbyD's thing a ma bobber on and put the rest of the stuff away!!

The bite stays the way it is now, this tournament could very well be won by one of the lake region teams! Then again, there are a few of us who got it figured out already, I'm sure you guys will put it all together come next weekend! :D :D :D I just hope Charlies foot and knee heals enough to where he can fish with me, I'm gonna really want that second rod in the boat!

What are you guys talkin about? You guys must have been on another Delta then me and my partner.

We were out on Sat and got a solid limit plus some. Nothing over 3lbs but still managed to get at least a bunch of keepers.

We even played with a school of small stripers using spooks and a buzzbait. That was fun.

The bite did die around noon and we were out of the water by 2:00

I aint kiddin! One 12" bass yesterday! I've only been fishing from 8:30am to 2:30pm (while the kids are in school) but I aint been catching them. Granted, I have not been fishing my tournament water, I've been looking for new ones, but I have fished enough quality spots to catch some fish! Monday wasnt too bad. I caught 10-12, 2 to 2 1/2 pound fish for about a 12 pound limit, but nothing to compete with. Yesterday I couldnt fish anything I wanted because of the wind, so I went to Sherman, fished for 3 hour, and only caught the Striper there. At first it was no big deal not catching anything because I was just looking around trying new spots, but now its starting to freak me out!

most guys are getting between 9-13 pounds at best. I believe if the bite stays the same, you manage ta git 15 pounds a day, you'll be in the top 20. I can assure ya, it's gonna take 22 pounds a day ta beat the entire field ta take home first place.
