Footware for the rain
What are you folks wearing to keep yout feet dry this winter?
Re: Footware for the rain
Check out the waterproof socks - I think they're called Seal-Skinz or something similar. Then you can just wear tennis shoes or similar and your feet won't get wet. I guess I'm thinking more on the safety side - if you're out fishing in the cold and rain and you fall in, you won't have heavy waterproof boots on that'll want to pull you under!

Eric,
By all means, do yourself a favor and pick up a pair of the Seal Skinz socks. Last winter, we had a club tournament up at shasta and it was COLD in the mornings. My feet (and hands) get cold really fast, so I tried the insulated waterproof socks and they kept my feet dry and warm. For the first time I was able to focus on fishing and not on how cold my feet were. This year, I've added the gloves in an effort to get ready for the upcoming winter.
Highly Recommended.

Just plain ol' Goretex lined hunting boots (ankle length) for me...
Seal Skinz ROCK!
Boots in a boat don't do it for me, my seal skinz are one of the best investments I've made.

Re: I guess I got a bad pair
About 3 or 4 years ago I bought a pair and fished a WON BASS Pro/AM tournament in February on Oroville... Some of you will remember that Tournament it was 38 degrees winds blowing 15 to 30 mph and rain coming down in buckets.
I was wearing seal skins and tennis shoes. I will say while my feet did not get cold they were soaked to the bone by the end of the day. They went in the trash the next week.
Maybe I should give them another shot.
I have been clumping around my boat in a lightweight pair of good hunting boots since...but they are not the best for a boat.

I have a pair or three of Gor-Tex boots to fish in but being here in Japan I saw too many people using these rubber boots that have a water guard that sinches around your calf to keep the water out.
So I went searching for my size and found a pair that bairly fits my size 11.5 flat foot. These suckers are comfy. I have flat feet so I am very picky what I put my feet in and these things get the job done!
Too top it all off I think I only paid 1900Yen for them too...
I will try to get a picture of them so you have an idea.

Columbia's Platinum Boogaboo Boots....100% waterproof and very warm. I like these because they are also light weight and very comfy....Ive been in these boots for about 5years now and they are still waterproof as the day I bought them.
Nothin worse that cold wet feet....or just plain cold feet.

I use Gore Tex Socks from Cabela's.
That way I can wear my athletic shoes for more comfort.
I had a pair of Seal Skins and I got soaked through. Have yet to have these leak. Wear a pair of regular athletic socks underneath for warmth.
Perfect solution to dryness and comfort.

Re: Footware for the rain
Sounds like a couple of you got defective Seal Skinz because I have fished through 2 winters with no problems. I don't know how many times I've washed them and they still perform...

Vans sure do grip well, even in the wet. I must say there were a few outtings this year when it was warm and pouring down rain and I was just too in zoned in on my pitching and flipping to stop and switch to my boots.
My feet were soaked and toes at times were a bit rinkled but the vans are still around today! Was thinking about retiering them this past week but was too lazy to go buy a new pair.

I use two different styles of the same type of waterproof boots. Both are RedHead “All Season Classicsâ€

Re: Footware for the rain
one thing to remember about feet getting wet and cold is....the rain getting your pants wet. If the bottom of your pants get wet, then they can wick onto your socks (gravity, plus they are right next to each other), then this wetness drains down into your boots or shoes. You may have waterproof boots and waterproof pants over your jeans, but you still get cold, wet feet.....
You have to keep the bottom of your pants dry too, or have the moisture from your rainpants drip over your boots, not onto your inside layer.....

Re: Footware for the rain
I use the Seal Skinz as well with a couple pairs of socks and tennis shoes.
It took a little getting use to. I swore my feet were getting wet, but when I got home I was wrong again.

I had to come back...I know...
Re: Footware for the rain
I started using nike goretex trail runners in 3/4 top and they are awesome. Feels like a sneaker instead of a boot and if you use seal skinz underneath with a polypro sock liner they are the best thing I have found.
