Any of you guys use 6 footers with a fast taper for tossing spinnerbaits?

I like using my 6'6'' mh for blades. A 6' rod seems kinda short. I would like to know what everyone else uses also.

i use 6'6" for blades and 7' for cranking. I dont feel like 6' has the leverage when setting the hook.

I used to have a 6' GL3 for blades and other things....I forget the model # but it was the 8-14lb model. It was a cool rod and worked very well but I really like a rod somewhere around 6'6". Lots of guys like em 7' or more but not me, and I'm tall too. My close range accuracy goes way down with a long rod. If youre in the market for a new stick, look at a Powell 683C or 684C....both 6'8" and the finest blade sticks around!!

If you need to get into tight spots, pitch rather than cast to the spots with a 6'6" or 7' rod. IMHO, I don't think the tip on 6 footers is quick enough for accurate casting, and if it does have a quick tip, it probably won't have enough butt to yank out a toad from heavy cover. I fished with 5 1/2 foot pistol grips for years, and then went to 6 footers, now 6'8" Loomis Spinnerbait series, and I can say that there is a HUGE advantage to having the right tip. I stand within hands reach of massive stretches of trees on the Kings River and pitch a blade into gaps with these rods, and it's not an issue having the extra length in regards to clumbsiness. Just a matter of getting used to it. You'll regret having that wimpy rod though when a monster grabs your blade. I'd check out the Powell's too. I have two of them for cranks and love 'em.

I would say it depends on your height, but I have seen a 5' nothing dude throwing his spinner baits off of a Ranger in Disco Bay on a 7'6" flippin stick with awesome accuracy.
