I always recommend the Shimano Clarus in that price range. They are fantastic rods for well under $100. Light, sensitive, and good looking!! Their 6'6" 8-17 casting rod is especially sweet, its awesome for many different techniques. Also, their warranty makes em that much sweeter!!

Shimano's Clarus line at $69.99 or their Compre line at $89.99.

Both are great sub $100 rods and are covered by Shimano's no-questions-asked-over-the-counter replacement policy.

The Shimano Clarus and Compre series are better than the BPS rods. If you break the Shimano all you have to do is walk it in to a stocking Shimano dealer and they'll replace it over the counter (some shops may ask for a small fee for them to ship the broken rod back though).

BPS probably has a pretty liberal replacement policy as well but you have to pack up the broken rod, take the time to have it shipped back to them and then wait for a new one to arrive. It's much easier to just walk into a local Shimano dealer for a replacement...

I love the okuma solaris rod for about 60.00. I also like the shimano's. The okuma has the best feel to me but the shimano's definitely have by far the best warranty.

Shimano Clarus. Again, best warranty and I havn't broke one yet. 7' heavy extra fast for all around striper chasing. They also did not cut out the amount of Fuji Guides because of the lower model. FYI Shimano owns GLoomis. 8)

Just my .02. I have both BPS Extreme & Shimano Clarus rods. The Shimano does have a faster tip then the BPS rods which can make it more sensitive, but I also feel that if you need to pickup the line quicker I have found it harder to do with the Shimano because of the tip. The BPS rod is a little stiffer. I have fished with both for a couple of years now and can't complain, you won't go wrong with either. As far as the warranty, I haven't had to deal with that yet. I've never (now that I've said it, it'll happen) had either one of those rods break.
