Unknown "jelly-fish" @ McClure
I was fishing in Horseshoe on Saturday (yesterday) when I noticed a nickel sized, transparent organism with a white-stared body in the middle. As I looked closer I noticed over a hundred or so in my area, from below surface to 20" below and they seemed to be swimming.
I thought I saw Jailer enter the cove as I was leaving, did you see these? I only saw them in Horseshoe, not in Maxwell or any other areas of the lake.
Anyone know what they are? Been fishing these lakes for over 20 years and never saw anything like this.
Dan

Craspedacusta Sowerbyi (aka Freshwater Jellyfish)
I'm guessing this is what you saw.
From what I understand they exist at many California lakes including Melones and Shasta.

Re: Unknown "jelly-fish" @ McClure
There was a thread about this I think last year or the year before that. Do a search on it and I think there were some pictures of them as well as some information. Infiact I know there was a thread on this because there was some suspicion as to what people were doing in the background of a video someone posted a link to! LOL

Re: Unknown "jelly-fish" @ McClure
I saw some in piney creek a couple years ago. few places at melones too. I think they live purty deep but show up when the lakes start turning over.
Re: Unknown "jelly-fish" @ McClure
Are these jellyfish or clams? I see them at Calero
and they look like some kind of dead clam minus
the shell. Only ones I see are dead floaters. They
are white and for lack of a better description look
like an unused condom. Is this ehat you guys are
seeing? Where is our fresh water biologist?
Thanks,
Mike

Does anyone know if they have any natural predators? Do the bass eat them? I can see a flurry of new baits on the horizon....

I have seen some jelly-like balls at the Delta that are attached to weeds. I have seen them up to about 5 inches in diameter. Are they sacks of eggs? I have always wondered about them. they are sort of a foggy/clear color.

Thanks for the link. I understood most of it... except any of the scientific four-syllable words— those made absolutely no sence whatsoever
