Need help picking out a new rod for Clear Lake and the Delta. I have a brand new old style Curado for it. I'm thinking a heavy fast action rod for jigs and big texas rigs. I have a 6'8" MH Powell and a 7' MH Lamiglass competetor series. Looking to throw 17-20lb mono or flouro and up to 1oz baits. Maybe it could do double duty for light swimbaits and frogs. I want it to be at least 7' and not a telescopic flipping stick. It should be light and have alot of backbone. What am I looking for? Assume cost of around $200.
Thanks,
NoCAL

I would say the Powell 735 MH Flip Ex-Fast (Frogs, Flippin, swimbaits and wakebaits 7'3" Ex-Fast Med-Heavy Flip, 12-25 lb. Test 1/4-1-1/2 oz.) *or maybe the Powell 766 H Flip Fast - the 735 is a very nice all around rod. The 766 and expecially the Powell 805 MH Flip Fast are heavier (weight) rods - the 735 feels really light weight and has many functions.

hey bro, i dont know if u ever fished with a kistler rod before but they are awsome. if ur lookin for a 7' rod for jigs, flippin and will also double as a swimbait rod. u should give the kistler Magnesium TS (MgJTH70) these rods go for about $180. i have 2 of them i use them for pitchin jigs and spinnierbaits.

a Lamiglas XC 705 sounds like it would fit the description you are talking about perfectly. It is a great all around rod for bigger line and heavier baits. Good luck in your search!!

NoCal,
I suggest a Shimano, Crucial (CRC-S711XH). The "Hook" has this in a Med/Heavy. It's one pc, 7'11" and it is priced right at $149.
I use it for Swimbaits in the "swimbait season" and buzzbaits and frogs during the "off-season".
Lots of good choices....
