Ish Monroe

Post by mark poulson »

I just got the latest issue of Bassmaster Mag. Toward the back, they have a writeup about Ish winning the Shootout, and his picture on the bow of his boat fishing. Am I blind, or does he not have a rod and reel in his hands? :?

All the old bass west mag. Nice when I actually got it on time. As for the pictures in it, they are a joke. Every issue has Ish or Ike hold up the same fish and do a shirt swap. They then take pictures with the fish with all kinds of different baits. They say they caught them on a tube, no a swimbait, no a jig and it is the same fish in all the pictures. Look at the last issue and the same fish pop up in three articles with 3 different guys in 3 different outfits. Hence the reason for not renewing. It's all glamour and advertising bucks, heck more than half the mag is ads anyways.

He's palming the reel in his left hand. The rod is pointing straight at the camera. Only explanation that makes sense to me.

Swimbait Wannabe -

Just a couple quick facts for you -

1. Our magazine has less ads then any other bass magazine. Feel free to count up the pages anytime you want! Compare it to any of the major mags.

2. As for the Ish and Ike pictures - they caught 16 double digit fish that day..... if you had read the article you would have known that.
The pictures in the articles are First Run pictures - no picture and as far as I can tell, no fish has been re-run twice. However, Ish may have 2 or 3 different types of shots with the same fish that HE CAUGHT... to the best of our ability to keep the fish separated. Same goes for IKE. Also, these guys don't swap their tournament shirts... but, that is pretty funny!

3. The original post was about BASSMASTER not BASS WEST.

One more FYI --- Current issue has 28 total pages of advertising 60 pages of non-advertising not counting the front and back cover.

Which would make it 29 pages and 61 pages. That is far from half the magazine. Also, you will find in FLW and Bassmaster - not only more ads.. but, ads for alcohol and tobacco and a lot of non-fishing related stuff.... IE Tylenol, Cialas etc, etc. Our magazine is youth friendly (no alcohol or tobacco ads) and 99.5% fishing related ads therefore!

In two years I have boxes of nice letters of people who enjoy the magazine plus 300-350 emails from people with good comments on the magazine with exactly 21 emails of people who had an issue with something or another... mostly all minor and about half are simple mailing issues (wrong address, moved or didn't get a mag).

We would not know what is on the market.
My advertising budget is $2000.00 per month without the business I get from advertising I would have to quit fishing

Thanks Rick - I appreciate it!

How's DV going? Is it worth bringing the boat down when I visit for the holidays?

Fished today, 23lbs for 5. Only caught 6 fish total, but when you get bit it is the right kind. Bring some triple trouts. Come by the shop and say hi. Rick G.

Hey Tom,

We met up at Clear Lake during the Southern AC TOC (the guy with the kickboat). When can I expect to see that new issue?

Bass West is a great Mag, for those of you that have not seen it yet.....

Thanks,
Bryan Vogt
