where to get a rod tube for shipping?

I've used PVC pipe from home depot to ship rods through the mail or through baggage at airports. Cut it to the right size with a hacksaw and tape both ends with duct tape.

I'm gonna use some pvc good idea. Last time I flew with soutwest they charged me 50 bucks to take my poles...over 90 inches. I have never had that happen before, the swimbait rod must of done it...yikes

this time im just shipping out a rod, not usually a problem.

If it is to avoid extra baggage costs when flying, you should try the Bazzoka, I have used this many times when flying. No extra costs.

Yep - a piece of PVC will do the trick. I go a step further and tape a couple of PVC caps on the enas. Wrap the rod in bubble wrap, put it in the tube and seal it up!!

I do the same as Gator suggested, but instead of the bubble wrap, I use the entire length of some pipe insulation and slide the rod in there first. Then I slide the rod with the insulation around it into the rod tube. Bubble wrap on either end of the tube to make sure the rod doesn't bounce back and forth lengthwise is good too.

Hey, Kidfisher, why don't you just strap to the top of your rig and get them home that way! Aren't you going to San Diego during Christmas? Otherwise, maybe your lazy old Dad could fabricate a couple for you, bring them up there, hit Clear Lake and Berryessa with you, etc. etc.

See Troy at Troy's Outdoors in West Scramento. I'm cleaning out my garage and will be dropping off 3 PVC tubes (6.5-7 ft) w/caps to him tomorrow. They were used by Lamiglas to ship me replacement rods. They won't cost you a cent.
