Re: 25 lb bass ??
complete and total BS, you should be ashamed of yourself for spreading the rumor.
Or maybe you meant ta say Clear Lake. If I hear one more story of DFG this, commercial catfisherman that, etc etc, read it in the paper, blah blah, ....25 lb bass Im gonna puke.

Re: 25 lb bass ??
steve if you think the record will come out of a place like clear lake which has no trout you should puke ....i remember for years that the raiders were coming back to oakland and everyone said oh yea right!! and then one day ????? you just never know....
Re: 25 lb bass ??
Re-read what I wrote Bob. I was saying that what you are saying/asking about Del Valle has been said about Clear Lake many, many times before: rumors of a 25 lb bass.
I dont even consider Clear Lake to be a trophy fishery, I consider it to be a quality fishery.
Im well aware of the trout/CA/big bass connection.

Re: 25 lb bass ??
hey steve glad we agree on clear lake.. anyway i'm not ASHAMED about posting that . its why i posted it to see if possible if it might be true.. someday it will be true..in fact i might make it true in january when i'm at el salto ..so i guess until someone does it its probably a rumor but how will be ever know if we don't ask . it sounded like anytime you hear this you know its not true and only a rumor. me i like to believe because someday i'll be right. like i was the last time i heard the raiders were coming back to oakland. being a raider fan ?????????????????????before i post in january with my hog i'll try to have apicture.. CMON SPRING TIME !!!!! MERRY XMAS !!!!! BOB
Re: 25 lb bass ??
Why should he be ashamed?? True or not it is always fun to talk about...right? Did you hear about the guy last year that snagged a 25lb bass and had to let it go?

Re: 25 lb bass ??
Sorry Guys but there was no shock boat from east bay regional or DFG at dell valle since this spring. BUT I sadly must say that I talked to Head Biologist Pete Alexander and he told me that this spring they shocked a number of fingerling and small, up to 12 inch Stripers in the lake. He made a call to find out if the pumps were sending delta water in and they denied the pumps working for 3 years. So My friends the stripers in Del Valle have found a way to spaun in the lake. I feel we need to get some limit or size changes for the stripers in that lake before its over run and the lmb population suffers. Any one who wants more info from Pete he will be at the lake on Jan 6th helping our habitat restoration project. so come along and help us dump christmas trees in the lake rain or shine

Bob,
Somebody was having fun with you or spreading rumor as fact. If there was such an incident DFG would most likely issue a press release to the fact or you would have heard it in the newspaper.
This tall tale has been going on for years and it's always a 25lb bass. No sense in spreading the rumors as this one does not pass the b.s. litmus test.
BTW when is the last time you actually say a DFG shock boat on any lake besides the delta? I'm willing to bet that if you called the DFG and asked this question they would laugh it off.

Re: 25 lb bass ??
In the spring of 2006 I personally witnessed a DFG shock boat in Ranch Seco Lake. They worked about 40 feet off shore and cruised the entire lake. Dont know why but I seen it with my own eyes.....and no 25lbers either!

Re: 25 lb bass ??
Come on guys, everyone knows the next 25 will come from the Floridas in Lake Amador. If you don't believe it, check with the folks at the lake.
We were fishing there last spring and heard of a Bass so large that a witness saw it jump in the air with a three foot rainbow in its mouth and break it in half, double it over and swallow it. YIKESSSSSSS.

Re: 25 lb bass ??
i'm with riplip,
why does DFG shock lakes? just to see the #'s of fish in them?
why does DFG shock lakes? just to see the #'s of fish in them?
Ok Lucas, here goes
The reason they were shocking the day RipdLip saw them is because they were trying to get a few big fish for the fish tank to display at the Sacramento outdoorsman show (not the real name, but its that big annual event that happens at CalExpo).
So why does DFG electroshock? Well, it could be for many, many reasons. But heres an example of the most important.
The simple reason is that it enables them to gather large amounts of data (the more data you have, the more your sample will represent the entire population as a whole; central limit theorm) while expending as little man effort and money as possible. The data is what helps them make appropriate managment decisions on a lake to lake basis. Typically, managers want to gather length, weight, and age data from samples gathered via electroshocking.
So heres the example. How can DFG assess whether or not the slot limit at Oroville is accomplishing objectives? Well, they need population dynamic info to assess that. They go out and shock up lets say 1000 fish. They record length and weight info for all 1000 fish, plus they kill 50 of those fish for age and growth purposes. They find that 98% of the sample is under 12 inches (the slot is 12-15, fish cannot be harvested that fall into the 12-15 inch range), and that (based on length to weight ratios) the fish are in poor condtion. They look at the age structure of the 50 fish they killed (they killed them because they wanted to use otoliths instead of scales for ageing purposes) and they find those sub-12 inch fish are older than they thought, lets say 0-5 years old. Well, an 11 inch fish should not be 5 years old.
Ok, now we got a problem. Most of the fish are under 12 inches, they are old, and they appear to be in poor condition. Conclusion: the fishery is still stunted, growth rates are still poor, anglers are not harvesting fish under 12 inches (which is absolutely required for the slot to achieve objectives), and the slot limit has failed!!
So now what does DFG do? They have two options. Outreach to the public explaining to them that they need to harvest sub-12 inch fish if they want to have a higher quality fishery at Oroville. Or two, say the heck with trying to manage this lake, lets just put the state standard regualtion on the lake and hope that things just work themselves out!!
So the point of all this is that electroshocking enables managers to quickly gather large amounts of data on a population, and that when assessed appropriately, this data allows managment agencies to properly manage a body of water.
Problem is that isnt the way it actually happens in our wonderful state.
By the way, if you are savy at researching, you can find DFG annual electroshocking reports summarizing their findings.

Steve,
That's right, I forgot that's what it was for. Didn't they only shock a bunch of small fish??

Hey Jarod, where ya been?
Yeah, I remember that day, the bass were very deep and DFG was shocking shallow water!! I think they did manage a few squeakers. Isnt that the day we had some play on some good fish too? I think that was the day I was trolling of all things.
Hope to see you on the water this year.

Steve,
Yeah that was a good day. All those big fish were schooled deep and in a tiny little area. Trolling was the key that day for sure. I'll see you out there more this year.
Lucas,
I have been watching you on the tournament gig. I remember the good ol days. That poor little pond is now almost void of ANY fish, damn shame. Keep up that winning thing you got going.

You two ought to go and catch up at a coffee shop, the odds are about the same of catching a big bass there anymore!lucas boden wrote:we should get out to seco sometime, even though me and that place have a very strong love-hate relationship...

Ripdlip,
Called you back late last night, sorry it took me so long to get your message. I went South like I said and was putting a hurt on them.

i'd say lets go to some ponds in EG but you pretty much have to sneak into all of 'em now to fish the ones that have fish left in them. i dont want to promote illegal acts on here.
supermat: DFG must have shocked all the 25 pounders out of seco cuz i havent caught one for a while.

Re: Ok Lucas, here goes
That poor lake got pounded the last couple of years. Alot of taking from beds...very sad. I saw a guy catch and keep a 16lber. He didnt even know what he had. He was fishing for trout of course. I tried VERY hard to convince him to put her back but he didnt. The lake managers even offered a 1 year pass if released it but he still would not. That lake needs a few years to recover....
Lucas,
I have a few places I go that are a little sketchy but there are some fish in them....email me sometime and we will talk...
