Prop question Z521

Post by michael »

Hey guys. I have a Ranger Z521 with a new Mercury Pro xs 250. I was wondering what prop and size the rest of you guys were using. I called Phil's and they gave me some great info. They recommended the Bravo Pro xs which is about $700 so I was hoping to find out some info on the other brands that aren't quite as expensive. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

A 25 Fury should be the best all around prop. You can have it balanced and blue printed.

25 Tempest will run great as well.

It really also depends on your load and if you are dealing with any elevation. If you are running heavy, go with the Fury as Ricky has suggested, but if you have elevation and heavy load you may consider a 24 Fury as well.

The Best props I have found for the Ranger 21' boats with a Mercury 250 Pro XS
Z21 Tempest 25 with all three stock plugs in.
Z521 Tempest 25 with one plug removed
521C 24 Fury no plugs
Hope this helps.

If you tell Phil's what your budget is, and the way you fish and load you typically carry, I'm sure they can help you with less expensive alternatives.

I agree with Jim and Ken I run a Z521C
The 24 Fury is a great all around prop it does well everywhere from the delta to clearLake all the way to lake Wheeler.
The 25 tempest gives me about 2mph gain and good bow lift on the delta but I loose the bow lift at higher elevation lakes and the extra speed a lot of times.
So I would say if you spend most of your time on the delta 25 Tempest.
If you hit a lot of different bodies 24 Fury,I carry them both on my boat one on the motor one spare for safety
You can possibly find them both used on WesternBass for the price of one new one.
Always carry a spare you never know.
