The California Delta is legendary when it comes to bass fishing and is considered one of the best fisheries in the country. There are two main rivers that feed the Delta, the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers. The Delta is tidal influenced where topwater frogs and flipping, pitching dominates the shallow water cover. Yak-a-Bass held a gamblers event at the California Delta. There was a twist with this event where the anglers were only able to launch at specific ramps on day one and then another set of specific ramps on day two.

Pua Yang takes the win with a two-day total of163.50”. Yang used several different lures to catch his winning limit of bass.

“On day one, with the curve ball tossed at us from the tournament director, I launched out of a ramp closest to the main channel.” stated Yang, “I normally never launch out of that ramp, so I headed West. It was windy and the wind was blowing one direction, and the tide was pushing the other direction-it was rough.”

“I made it to the Slough; it took two hours before I got my fist bite.” said Yang, “I caught two 15” fish and filled my limit 4 hours into the tournament, nothing too big in my limit.”

“The wind was so bad it was hard to have good boat control because the wind was blowing over the levee.” exclaimed Yang.

“I left and hour early to be sure I made it back to the ramp in time because it was extremely windy out on the main channel.” mentioned Yang.

“I was in third place going into day two.” declared Yang, “I launched out of a ramp that I hate but the only reason I launched there was because of the wind was going to be blowing harder than day one and that area had some protection for the wind.”

“There were only three anglers that launched out of the ramp that I did.” claimed Yang, “I headed North and found some nice grass and started to pluck out a few fish from that area.”

“I headed even farther North and caught a few more fish in the back of the dead-end slough.” pronounced Yang, “I headed back out and thought that I should fish the grass that was on the main river.”

“I found a nice patch of grass that looked great.” expressed Yang, “I caught two cull fish right away and with only seconds left, I caught a 19” fish but was not able to take the picture before time ran out.”

“I caught fish on a 6” Senko, creature bait, a drop shot and a chatter bait.” said Yang.

Yang thanked his wife for all she does with helping me with my fishing, a huge shout out to her. Yang thanked James with Yak-a-bass for throwing a curve ball with the ramp locations. It really evened the playing field.

Robert Yamamoto came in second place with a two-day total of 158.25”. Yamamoto used several different baits to catch his fish during this event.

“I started off fishing in front of the openings of the launch ramp and the marina area to catch my fish.” declared Yamamoto, “I got bit right away, so I decided to fish that area since the main channel was extremely rough.”

“I caught fish on a frog, topwater, drop shot, Jig before the sun came up.” pronounced Yamamoto, “I did catch a few larger fish on the drop shot once the sun came out.”

“I had my fifth fish on several times, but they would come unbuttoned, if I could have just landed one more keeper, I could have won this event.” said Yamamoto.

“On day two, we launched in the central Delta, and I caught two 19” fish in the marina near where we launched.” voiced Yamamoto, “I fished tulles after that and caught some nice fish on the drop shot.”

“I was drop shotting the Robo worm in the 6 and 7 inch to fill my second day limit that measure 90.00”.” said Yamamoto

“That was pretty much my two days of fishing, I never went very far and fished as much as I could. It paid off keeping my line in the water.” said Yamamoto.

Yamamoto thanked his wife for holding down the home while he is out fishing these events. She is the best wife and mom ever! James for hosting these events and throwing a curve ball with the specific launch ramps.

Yenhoua Yang finished in third with a two-day total of 158.25” just missing second by big fish. He used the flipping and punching techniques to catch his fish.

“It was tough out there on day one, I stayed close and fished the marina area to catch a limit of fish.” said Yang, “I was surprised that I had caught a limit of fish because it was so tough.”

“On day two, said Yang, “I got to the ramp and thought I should have launched at a different ramp, my gut was telling me this, but I still launched South anyways.” stated Yang, “I launched South and headed to the main river, but it was too rough to fish so I headed to a protected area near the ramp and fished there.”

“I flipped and punched to catch my fish that were in the weeds.” said Yang.

“I give Pua a big shout out for being able to adjust and catch fish at specific ramps.” said Yang.

I big shout out to the anglers that we compete against, they keep me motivated to fish harder which in turn makes me try my best to beat the anglers.
