Punching Help
Punching Help
What type of plastice are you putting on your punch rig! Im using a straight shank hook with a snell knot but having an issue with the hook point constantly tearing through my plastic when working my baitb in and out of cover and then gets caught up in the cover because the hook point is exposed.. Any tips on elevating that issue?
Thank you in advance for any tips/pointers.

Re: Punching Help
this is what i use and some of the weeds i punch..i dont go through very many but i do trim the head once its torn on both sides and hook it all over the main body to conserve my baits

Re: Punching Help
Also put a bobber stopper between your weight and the hook -> helps keeping the hook straight while you pull it through the weeds but when you set the hook on a fish the snell knot will still kick out the hook point.

Re: Punching Help
Fish Delta TV and Bobby Barrack shot a really informative Punching Video for Monster Fishing Tackle - pretty good info.
Rob's video is awesome as well - he crushes them in it - both are worth a look.

Dm Baits 520, double wide beaver and Berkley Pitboss in rhythm and blues. The D&M baits are great, the slimmer body plastic gives you a big bite at the hook.

Re: Punching Help
Dont skin hook your worms. I just barely go into , i dont come back out and skin hook. You are using 80lb braid. you can go through the plastic.
Re: Punching Help
Great video from Bobby.
I see a lot of fishermen trying to figure out what plastic to use, or what hook to use.
With all the new Punch Hooks available now, there is a wave of heavy duty jigs that will really help out those fishermen that struggle to figure out this punching technique.
Find the easiest way to get to the fish, that is the most important thing. I like the idea of using the heaviest line, you can get away with.
100lb. test braided line works for me.

I know I'm going to take a verbal lashing for saying this....but ditch the straight shank hook! I know...I know...I know. I've done all the research and talked to all the right guy's, but hey a 5/0 Extra wide gap Owner has done me well. Everyone has their own style, I just couldn't get used to the straight shank. that is all....carry on!

i went out with coosch and he put me on the straight shank hook . it didn't look wide enough for me but cooch was getting several fish . after i lost couple big fish using the straight shank i went back to the extra wide. i think its just a mind set thing but ??

Re: Punching Help
What is the best size bobber stopper for 65# braid? Mine tends to slip even when I double them up.
Re: Punching Help
A little trick a guy taught me. Take some 15# mono and tie it above your bobber stops. Double the 15# with two strands, tie a unit - knot around the braid. Pull it tight, cut the tag ends and slide down to the bobber stop. This knot above the stops will help the slip. Most of the time when the braid will break it is because the bobber stop slips, the weight will slide and twist on the braid and the braid will cut on itself.bayscotter wrote:What is the best size bobber stopper for 65# braid?
