Question on Verizon Wireless Broadband?

Post by Vernonn »

How well does it work, and how is the coverage - is Frank's Tract covered?

Thanks!

I have Verizon and it's spotty on the delta. It depends where I'm at. For instace, I don't get service while lanching at Holland Riverside Marina but get full service at Orwood.

Overall I'd say Verizon service is disappointing on the delta. You really need to be by civilization for good Verizon service.

In the house at Discovery Bay, I would lose signal walking through the house. Big Break (very close to Oakley) has great service.

It is on the edge. It works well in Brentwood and I know it does not work in the middle Delta near Stockton. Overall the coverage is good and the speeds are impressive.

Vernon -

If you are talking about the Broadband access card, I was using it at the Pro-Teen at Russo's marina and had no problems and great speed. I haven't taken the computer out on the water yet so I can't tell you about anywhere else.

If you are talking about Verizon Cell service, I have had good luck on the Delta with mine. Some dead spots but I can usually find an area to make a call if I need to. Of course, my phone usually goes in the glove box in the boat when I am fishing anyways!!

Gator,

Yes. According to the coverage map it seems to be pretty good from Sacramento out towards Lincoln.

The access card just plugs into the PC slot right?

Seems like a good deal for $60/month.

Yep - plugs into the slot, install the VZAccess software and you are off to the races - - literally. This is the fastest I have ever had other than home based broadband or T1 and above.

Also, for those of you who are using a Mac, the card and software does work for the Mac. It is awesome. I can use either laptop wherever I can get a cell signal and have better than dialup speed (at worst) or DSL Broadband speed.
