Racks for transporting your boats?

Post by reginald »

Greetings again, gents.
Before this I rented a place in our local truck. But decided to create my own setup.

I'm sure some of you have kayak racks. What can you tell me about them? What's good, and what's bad? I'd like to be able to remove as much as possible in the off-season. Has anyone ever strapped down a kayak successfully with only basic roof racks? Or it would be better to replace the default setup?

I bought Tripper 12 after some considerations and I'm planning to transport my brother's yak on my Outlander as well. So something durable is prefered.

Thanks in advance!!

I transport my kayak out of the bed of my pickup so I don’t have too much experience with racks. I would say for loading on your own you will mostly likely want a rack that cradles the kayak instead of sitting g up on its side. A trailer is a good idea, could be impractical based on what storage capacity you have. I would take a look on NorCal Kayak Anglers website forums, I’d imagine they may give you some good options.
