Raiders interview USC coach

Post by Fishin' Dave »

Al interviewed the 32 year old qb coach from USC. He coached Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart, and Booty. We shall see. I think youth is the way to go.

The Raiders have a good coach...

Post by Ron C »

...they just need a good owner.

Don't get your hopes up about Pete Carroll leaving USC to coach in the NFL. Here is what the San Jose Mercury News reported yesterday:
Carroll has denied any interest in leaving USC. Asked last week whether an NFL team could change his mind to remain at the school, he told the Los Angeles Times: "No, it won't change. I expect 1,000 percent to be here."
If Carroll were to leave USC for a coaching job in NFL, it sure as hell wouldn't be for Al Davis.

I am sorry for all the Raider faithful. Until that mistake of an owner (I know his resume and history but I am talking about today) is gone, this will be a broken record, repeating over and over. He has proven time and time again that his way does not work.

My bad...

...I should have read your post more carefully Dave. My brain is still frozen from Shasta.

Anything is possible, but I believe that Steve Sarkisian is having the time of his life at USC right now. It would probably take a fat offer to lure him away.

As usual....
He has proven time and time again that his way does not work.
I can see that, that ONE Miller Lite, has already gone to yer head!   You say you know, let me just scrape the tip for those who don't know about Al Davis:

Only 8 teams have been to 5 or more Super Bowls, the Raiders are one of them.
Only 7 teams have won 3 or more Super Bowls, the Raiders are one of them.
The Raiders were last there in 2003.
30 years ago to this day, the Raider crushed the Vikings in the most watch Super Bowl in history, 81 million viewers and the largest, In-Stadium crowd ever.
From 1963 to present, Al Davis has sent 12 players to the Hall Of Fame, including himself AND Mr. Madden as coach.

Jim Otto C 1960-1974
George Blanda QB/K 1967-1975
Willie Brown CB 1967-1978
Gene Upshaw G 1967-1982
Fred Biletnikoff WR 1965-1978
Art Shell T 1968-1982
Ted Hendricks LB 1975-1983
Al Davis Owner 1963-present
Mike Haynes CB 1983-1989
Howie Long DE 1981-1993
Dave Casper TE 1974-1980, 1984
Marcus Allen RB 1982-1992
Bob Brown OT 1971-1973
John Madden Head Coach 1969-78

Of the 31 NFL franchises, the Raiders have an all time winning record against all but two franchises, KC Cheifs 42-49 and Baltimore Ravens 1-3.

I could go on and on and on. Granted, they are pitiful at the moment, and have been since they lost that Super Bowl in 2003. But yer dead wrong, time and time again, for over a 40 year period, Al Davis has proven to be one sharp, smart, football thinkin man. His way does work, he just don't have the brains left now to remember how to, MAKE it work!

I don't disagree that his time must come to an end, but we're stuck with him till he dies, ya can count on that! :x

Cooch,
I have been a die-hard Raider fan for 30+ years. Your post brought back a lot of memories. Al was THE man in his time. The most brilliant football mind anywhere. Unfortunately those days are over. Poor coaching choices and suspect draft picks have doomed this once-proud organization. Over the past four years they have an overall record of 15-49, the worst in football. Being a fan of this team has been painful. Even when they were playing good football....

Remember this?

2000 - Shannon Sharpe catches a short pass and sprints 96 yards for the TD and the Baltimore Ravens go on to the Superbowl.
I was there in the stadium and I have never heard it so quiet as when he was racing down the sidelines.

2001 - New England. FUMBLE. Incomplete Pass. Nuff Said.

2002 - Chuckie's Revenge. Superbowl blow-out.

Al should do the right thing and relinquish his ownership to a quality football mind. He needs to make sure the team ends up in the hands of the right person who will lead them back to Excellence. But I don't have a lot of confidence in his choices these days.

"Even though the interview process is young, sources familiar with the Raiders head coaching search now say that Oakland's head coaching job is USC assistant head coach Steve Sarkisian's to lose. Sarkisian had what sources say was a "great" interview with Davis on Jan. 8. Clearly, Davis wants to go with a young mind, an offensive mind, and at the age of 32, Sarkisian has some of the best of both. Some around the league believe Raiders defensive coordinator Rob Ryan also is warranting serious consideration for the job; he is a valued member of Oakland's organization"
