Can anybody confirm the drag lbs on the Abu-Garcia Revo series...
I see an old story on Tackle Tour that shows 24lbs of drag...is this correct?
thanks ~

Re: Revo STX
its not that good of a reel. it feels like citica but double the price. i hear the sx is better
Re: Revo STX
Delta is beast wrote:thats what abu says. and there 7.1:1 is 12 pounds of drag
The Revo STX and SX is rated @ #24 Drag ....... It is the Revo Premier with the lesser drag # rating of the Revo series
The drag is indeed alot less on the Premier's ... and they are a much lighter body/frame/drag reel as well. More suited for finesse fishing #10-#12 test line.... or less.
The STX, SX, and S are pure work-horses. The Premier is a beautiful reel as well .... But the drag is not at all in the ball park of the SX and STX.

Re: Revo STX
Except I'm returning it for a new one so it might just be a bad made one idk well see. The reel was really loose and didn't feel solid
Re: Revo STX
here's the reply i got direct from ABU:
when tackletour tested the STX, they were amazed at the 24 lbs. of drag force and it was still smooth and consistent. however, when they tested the SX-HS, it maxed out at 11 lbs. Here is the drag rating for the Revo's:
Inshore-24 lb
Premier-12 lb
SX-24 lb and SX-HS-18 lb
S-24 lb
STX-24lb and STX-HS-18 lb
Winch-24 lb
Skeet Reese-12 lb
Re: Revo STX
I wonder whats up with the inconsistency between the sx-HS numbers? Not that 18/24lbs of drag is slghtly overkill for bass fishing or anything
(but its not like i use drag most of the time anyway).

Re: Revo STX
bpm,
There's no inconsistency - they are that way by design.
all those reels have different ratings because to either fit the bigger gears in it (HS reels) or make it lighter (skeet reese, premier), Abu is taking out a few of the washers in the drag system.
they all dont have the exact same components, so they vary from design. The only thing common is the frame, and even that varies slightly. every ounce counts and every mm counts when fitting it all into that package.
That's why they are different.

Re: Revo STX
kopper, i think what bpm2000 means is: why did the tackletour guys find that the revo SX's drag was only 11lbs. instead of the 18lbs. it is rated for? especially since the STX is rated for 24lbs. and their lab tests confirmed 24lbs. the STX and SX aren't that different. i kind of wonder if the STX they first tested was brand new (since they were just introduced) and the SX was more used (but, if so, what does this say about the durability or lack thereof of carbon fiber drag washers?).
Re: Revo STX
Last time i was a guest on BrothA Goin's sled -- I pitched a jig 50+ feet over a wreck ... Jig became hooked on the under/backside of the wreck.
I cranked my drag down all I could to get as much line back as I could w/o putting his boat in harm -- and even with the drag would giving "some" -- That #17 Trilene Floro would not give at all ! Trying to get as close as I could to the nearest point of cutting the line .... I lost some 20+ feet of line in the end.
After retying a new jig -- I had to unspool alot of the line because it had became imbeded into itself on the spool for at least the first 5-9 wraps.
Strong Line and Strong Reel = Never wish to have a sea-lion take your striper while fishing with braid and pencil poppers on top-water.

Re: Revo STX
ahh - i see. guess i missed that connection.
Dont know the answer for that.
Tackletour always does a standup job on testing their sample equiepment.
my guess is that it was just a dud reel - it happens. i have all 3 and dont find that any are weak when it comes to the drag. they are all pretty darn good.
i still prefer the lower end Revo S the best. i guess i am just simple minded when it comes to reels.
