Robert Yamamoto hammers a grand slam at a double hitter by capturing the win at Lake McClure with both Yak-a-Bass and Central Valley Kayak Fishing. Yamamoto’s 78.75” was more than enough to dominate a field of 90 Yak-a-Bass anglers and another 40 CVKF anglers. Yamamoto bested second place by an impressive 1.25”. One can now call Robert Yamamoto “The Drop Shot King” because he has dominated several events with this one technique with a variety of lure presentations.
“I just used the drop shot to catch all my fish during the event.” stated Yamamoto, “I tried some topwater, but the fish were not committing to the bait.”
“I was fishing inside of coves close to the launch ramp with the drop shot rig.” expressed Yamamoto, “The larger fish were in the back of the coves pushing bait.”
“I was drop shotting the Zoom finesse wacky shot worm in Green Pumpkin color and the Robo sculpin worm in the Morning Dawn color.” mentioned Yamamoto, “I was fishing from the bank to about 15-feet of water.”

“Most of my bigger fish came in the back of a cove in the shade and one came near a waterfall.” indicated Yamamoto, “I did catch one of my better fish on a steeper bank that had a mud line later in the day, the rocks were the key to catching the bigger fish.”
Yamamoto thanked his fiancé for watching our son while I'm out fishing and his family for all their support.
Daigo Kobayashi was runner up with a total of 77.50” plus caught the big fish of the event. Kobayashi found himself with no fish late in the afternoon during the tournament but kept his positive thoughts and keyed in on an underspin bite for a last minute, last hour smack down to overtake the entire field except for Mr. Yamamoto. Talk about keeping your head down and not giving up, this is how Kobayashi captured second place.
“I launched out of McClure point ramp and saw hundreds of bait fish around me.” stated Kobayashi, “I headed towards the spillway and found the same schools of bait being pushed by fish. The fish had nothing to do with my lures and I was not able to catch a single bass.”
“At 12:45, I found myself without a single fish and lines out was at 2 PM.” expressed Kobayashi, “I stated my way back to the ramp and started to fish some small main lake pockets and immediately caught my first keeper a 14” bass.”
“There were 4 small pockets in front of me while I was headed back to the ramp.” revealed Kobayashi, “I was using a 3/16oz Coolbait underspin paired with a 2.8 Keitech and I would cast the bait in front of me towards the bank.”

“I was working the bait over top of the grass and just ticking it.” indicated Kobayashi, “This was the key to triggering the bass to bite.”
“Every pocket I was able to catch a fish in.” conveyed Kobayashi, “I had 4 keepers until 1:45 and then I finally caught my fifth fish with just minutes left.”
“My big fish was the third fish I had caught that last hour.” demonstrated Kobayashi, “It was crazy to be in the right area at the right time and using the right bait to catch the fish I did. I was in a happy place!”
Kobayashi thanked his family and friends for all their support and his sponsors Bonafide Fishing, Motorguide, Newport Vessels, Baitsanity, Keitech, P-Line 1st Gen Fishing, WOO! Tungsten, Fat Bass Apparel, Coolbaits, and The Rod Glove. A big shout out to Coyote Bait & Tackle for keepong him dialed in every trip!
Chris Starkey finished in third place with 76.75”. Starkey practiced Thursday and Friday and on Friday found a topwater bite over the top of rock piles in shallow water.
“Thursday practice I didn’t catch a keeper all day long, the fish would not commit to the topwater bait.” spoke Starkey, “Then on Friday afternoon, I found out how to get the fish to commit to the topwater bait.”
“The Berkey Choppo reeled supper slow over rocks was the key to my success.” stated Starkey, “I had to change up my rod and line to get the fish to totally commit on my lure.”

“When the wind picked up, I picked up the Choppo.” disclosed Starkey, “I only caught 5 fish all day long.”
“The bone 130 size Choppo slow rolled over the rocks was the key.” revealed Starkey, “It had to have wind too.”
Starkey thanked his wife for all her support, God for being here for me during my medical healing, Yak-a-Bass for hosting a great event.
This event was a double hitter, and the top three places were a little different for third place since not everyone signed up for both events. Therefore:
Sean Beach placed third in CVKA with 75.75”. Beach launched out of Barretts ramp and headed over to the main point just across from the ramp. He found the fish were busting bait fish around him first thing in the morning.
“I fished the same point that I did well on during the last tournament.” pronounced Beach, “The fish were busting bait on the point, so I started off with a topwater and had no luck.”
“I picked up the drop shot rig and hooked up with a 17-inch fish.” declared Beach, “I was using a 6” Robo worm in the sexy shad color with a foot and a half leader.”

“The fish were still busting bait, so I picked up the topwater bait, but again no luck.” mentioned Beach, “I moved to the next point and got a bite, but the fish took my worm. I replaced the worm and on the next cast caught a 17” fish on a 7” MMIII.”

“I caught a couple more fish on the wacky Neko Senko to fill my limit at about 12:45 PM.” communicated Beach, “I only caught 6 fish all day long. I was extremely happy to have a 12” fish in my bag.”
Beach thanked his dad for all his support and being there for me at each tournament. Love you, Dad!
