Rod for 6" Osprey Tournament Talon Top Hook?
I'm thinking the 795MLSB, but I know people that use a 7'6" flipping stick. What rod would you choose?

I use the Okuma Guide Select 7' 11" Heavy action swimbait rod. It works great for me.

Try the 735 Powell Great action strong Rod, or the 765 Swimbait Rod, by far the sickest BASSTRIX rod for sure. Ive thrown the 6 inch osprey on both. Awesome Rods

I'll second the Okuma Hvy, but now that I build all my own rods...
But that bait (weight-wise, is really the perfect mid-range weight for that rod, so it perfroms very well in casting those ospreys.

I use a 795 SBMT. I used the 795 MLSB, but found the handle to be too long for my liking. I did back flips when the 795 SBMT came out. It is perfect for 6" Ospreys and other 6" Swimbaits and Magnum Topwaters (hence the name SBMT).Micropterus salmoides wrote:I'm thinking the 795MLSB...

I actually have the 795 SB MT. I purchased it for the short handle as well, but I am having second thoughts about swapping it for the 795 ML SB.Ron C wrote:I use a 795 SBMT. I use the okuma for the 6 and 7 inch osprey...I think I like it better than my powell 765cb for these baits.

I use both the gen 1 and gen 2 795ml for osprey's and the like. never had any problems with them and I think they are by far the best rods I've ever used for baits of that size

If you already have the 795 SB MT, you've got exactly what you need. That rod is a perfect fit for the application you have mentioned.

+1 That is the rod paired with a curado 300E and 20 lb P line Floro. I have two of those setups so I can have two on deck with different swimbaits.

Re: Rod for 6" Osprey Tournament Talon Top Hook?
Thanks.
The rod will be primarily used for Punker Jrs, Hard Gills, Wake Jrs, but also Triple Trout, MS Slammers, and 6" swimbaits. I'm torn between the 795 ML SB and 795 SB MT.

Re: Rod for 6" Osprey Tournament Talon Top Hook?
I would recommend if you could find an original 1st gen 795ML for the ospreys and such. They are more stout, faster taper, and less parabolic. I have both and I think the 2nd gen is more suited for punkers/topwater since it is more parabolic. Both are great rods and have their strengths.

Re: Rod for 6" Osprey Tournament Talon Top Hook?
Don't over look the Okuma 7'11H or 7'10H both of those rods would be perfect for the lures you are describing. The only difference between the two is that the 7'10 has a shorter handle without a split rear grip. I have the 7'10H and love it, and it is half the price of the 795sMicropterus salmoides wrote: The rod will be primarily used for Punker Jrs, Hard Gills, Wake Jrs, but also Triple Trout, MS Slammers, and 6" swimbaits.
