I am having a difficult time choosing a rod for wakebaits. I LOVE topwater but out of all the topwater techniques...I still haven't gotten one on a wakebait and am determined to fish wakebaits more this year in hopes of landing one.
I am of the kind or theory that wakebaits are kind of like swim baits, buzzbaits or frogs and therefore you need a rod with lots of backbone and a mod. fast to fast tip. Plus...a lot of bass I see that strike a wake bait...strike it very aggressively and hard...so therefore u need a faster heavier rod.
On the other hand...I have heard of guys using slower tipped, softer crankbait rods for their wake baits to give it better action and feel. They too...catch them.
I don't know which rod to conform to.
Right now...I have 2 rods that I believe would be able to fish small-medium sized wake baits. They are the Irod Genesis 2 744c and 754c freds magic stick.
Maybe get a different rod? Any suggestions?
Anyone use the above rods for wake baits? I know fred roumbanis uses his magic stick for his IMA roumba...so I should be fine.
Thanks for the help guys.

Re: Rod for Wakebaits...???
How big of a wake bait are you referring about? Like a 7" MS Slammer? 3:16 wake bait? or The Jackall Mikey? Deps Buzz Jet??
I was forced to minimize my rods last Friday as I was a Back seater.... Since I was on the Delta I needed a rod that i could flip, punch, frog and throw a Wake Bait (MS Slammer 7")... I decided on my Dobyns Extreme DX795 Flip Rod.... I had that paired with one of my Shimano Castaic SF, I should have paired ti with my Curado E7... Overall the rod handle great. Easy to cast and load up the 7" Slammer... lots of back bone and casts tweety nice ad far...
Have fun finding that perfect rod bud!

The Dobyns 795 Extreem is a great rod for wake baits. If its out of your price range, the 765 is also a great rod. That's what I use most of the time.
