Re: rod suggestion......
The Powell 682 is a great DS rod. I got the 681 - and it is to light for the Delta for me.
But I gotta ask - why would you spend that money on a reel to DS with ?
Put it on a 6'6" M for ripping or cranking as it was designed for.
I made that mistake already thinking that lighter is better for DS'ing with me buying ABU Priimere to top off my rod. (got a deal on both of them at the sac ISE show)
Now I have a Shimano Bantam on my DS rod ~ that was my very first bait caster ever... from 1984.

You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.

Re: rod suggestion......
dan,
for a while i have been going bigger on all my stuff. line, weights, lures...everything....
lately after 5-6 hours of trying to figure out the tide it's been helpful having a split shot rig on the deck and a drop shot rig.
i do not know how many days have been saved with a finess technique
