Post by shifterpilot2001 »

Hey guys.... I am going to be in Sacramento all week studying for some testing next weekend.... I am staying at the Larkspur Landing on Howe Ave (near hwy 50)..... I am sure I will need a few breaks now ad then and I brought a few rods and tackle.... was hoping a couple of locals could turn me onto a place nearby I could go fish from shore and catch a few bass..... any info on some spots would be greatly appreciated....thanks...

Shifter,The only places I can think of is they American river or you can go to Folsom Lake or Negro Bar just depends on how long your breaks are.

If the Cherrytrees' are in full blosson ( I can no longer tell here from my house as they have all ripped out and are covered in asphalt/homes) ..... The Shad should be in full swing on the American. Darts on 4/6#.
You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.

Jonathon, Arden pond is at the extreme east end of Arden way. The street dead ends at it, pond is at the right of the entrance.

Shifter, You can go look at Howe park but it's nothing more than a small cement duck pond. It's pretty gross. I would'nt recomend it. I think your best best is Mather park. More of a drive (20 minutes) but some quality fish can be had. I've caught several swimbait fish from the shore here.

I can Vouch for Mather

Post by ash »

Mather has some huge bass. Its pretty hard to target with the grass so a frog, senko and sometimes a heavy flip will work. My first summer fishing from the bank here my biggest bass on Mather was a 4.00 and bunches of 2's I have heard of big fish showing up here. From Howe its maybe a 15-20 minute drive up the 50 exit sunrise

Mather pond cross streets are douglas, and sunrise look it up on map quest. It has some big fish in there. Like someone else said, use frogs, and senkos. Its pretty big you can't miss it. There are two douglas streets on sunrise don't confuse them. Douglas blvd is a big main street, and its not the one you need to be on.

Results.....

Post by shifterpilot2001 »

Well... I appreciate all the input everyone gave me on where i could go and possibly catch some fish.....

Tuesday I tried the Arden Ponds as a few had suggested with no luck..... very shallow and no signs of life.... I take that back... I did see a mutant KOI... wow... the thing was a monster... had to be 10 - 12 lbs.... I dont know why it didnt want to eat the frog I was harassing it with... lol...

Wed. I thought I would give it another try and went to Mather... again no takers..... very heavy grass and vegitation... threw a frog and senko....

Today.... my brain had had it and I decided to drive to Folsom as Skeeterman suggested and give it a try.... I went to Beals Point and found a little cut with some cover.... I was throwing a Brown and Orange Pepper Jig with a Sweet Beaver trailer ( Big Texan )... on my thrid cast WHAM.... set the hook....dragged a 4.9 lb Largemouth to shore....That one fish made all my trips worth it... it was great.....

So thanks for the info guys... I really appreciate it.... needed that fish... lol
